Carter's fifth double-double in Midwestern State's 76-42 victory against Texas-Dallas

WICHITA FALLS, Texas --Zarria Carter notched her fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and 18 rebounds to help the Midwestern State take down the UT Dallas Comets 76-42 Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs (2-5) had three players score in double figures, including Carter's dominating performance, while Emillia Steele added 17 points and two steals and Kerbie Cash chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Led by Carter's nine offensive rebounds, Midwestern State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in 19 second-chance points.

Midwestern State forced 24 UT Dallas turnovers while committing 21 of its own. The Mustangs turned those takeaways into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Carter's six steals led the way for MSU.

How It Happened

Midwestern State entered the second quarter tied at 13-13 after a tightly contested first period.

UT Dallas then took a 15-14 lead before Midwestern State responding by going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Carter, to take a 20-15 lead. The Mustangs proceeded to tack on six points to that lead and enjoyed a 37-26 advantage heading into halftime. Midwestern State dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 24 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Midwestern State continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 42-30 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Cash, to expand its lead further to 48-30 with 1:06 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Midwestern State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.

Midwestern State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 53-34 before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 63-34 with 4:48 to go in the contest. The Mustangs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 76-42 win. Midwestern State took advantage of six Texas-Dallas turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
