HAYS, Kansas -- Mere Escobar continued his early season tear Wednesday night, scoring twice to lead No. 6-ranked Midwestern State to a 2-0 win over Fort Hays State at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The senior from Austin has scored goals in all five matches for the Mustangs, who improved to 4-0-1.
Escobar gave the Mustangs ahead with his fifth goal of the season in the 30th minute off of an assist from Anthony Perez, then scored against in the 63rd minute by finishing off a combination from
Daniel Yu and Josh Milla.
Escobar accounted for his fifth collegiate brace to go along with a pair of hat tricks -- both against UT Permian Basin in the spring of 2021 and during the 2022 campaign.
The Anderson High grad has scored goal in all five matches this season and eight of his last nine dating back to last season.
Escobar passed Jimmy Krueger, who scored 31 goals from 2002-05, to move into 14th on MSU's all-time goal scoring list and his now 13th in program history with 80 points.
He continues to lead the Lone Star Conference in both scoring categories with six goals and three assists.

Midwestern State takes on Southern Nazarene (2-1-2) Saturday night at Wes Harmon Field in Bethany, Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.< br="">
