BETHANY, Oklahoma -- Midwestern State's Mere Escobar continued his offensive assault and the No. 6-ranked Mustangs blitzed Southern Nazarene, 5-1, Saturday night at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.

The Mustangs remained unbeaten by moving to 5-0-1 with the win.

Escobar took the NCAA Division II goal scoring lead by scoring his second consecutive brace for his seventh and eighth goals of the season.

The senior from Austin delivered his first strike by placing the ball just under the crossbar from 25 yards out in the 39th minute, then converted his third penalty kick in the 39th minute to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead at intermission.

Sophomore Jecsi Orellana-Espinal produced the opener for his third goal of the year on an assist from Liam Pritchard win in the fourth minute of the match, then Jack Larkin pushed the lead to 2-0 with unassisted strike in the 29th minute.

Southern Nazarene, an NCAA Division II postseason qualifier in 2022, pulled to within a goal on Juan Rodarte's second score of the season in the 33rd minute, but Escobar reasserted control for the Mustangs just five minutes later.

Anthony Perea pitched in his first goal as a Mustang in the 61st minute on Pritchard's second assist of the match.

Escobar closed the ledger with his penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference next week with a road match against No. 20 St. Mary's on Wednesday before returning to Stang Park to take on West Texas A&M on Saturday.

Southern Nazarene fell to 2-2-2 on the season.
