Midwestern State ranked third in final ITA South Central Region rankings

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State finished the season ranked No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's South Central Regional Rankings. The Mustangs were 14-11 overall and made their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship.

Cameron, which won the Lone Star Conference Tournament title and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II National Championship, is the No. 1 team in the region.

Senior Luis Diaz Argente, who was 9-9 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs and finished the campaign with a 12-11 record overall, is ranked No. 8 in the region among singles players. Diaz won six of his final nine matches for the Mustangs. The senior from Spain played five matches at No. 2 singles at the start of the season before taking over the No. 1 role.

Charles Heffernan is the No. 13 singles player in the season-ending regional rankings. The senior started the season at No. 1 singles for MSU and finished the year with a 10-11 record overall after going 9-7 in the No. 2 position. The Australian posted an impressive 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win over Kelly Giese of Lubbock Christian and finished with a 6-2 record against conference opponents.

Sophomore Marcal Miret Avante earned the No. 18 ranking in the region after posting a 6-2 record against conference opponents and finishing the season with a 15-8 mark overall. Miret was 10-7 at No. 3 singles and 2-1 at No. 2 singles. The Spaniard won both matches at No. 4 singles and also scored a victory at No. 5 singles for the Mustangs.

Germano Setti is No. 19 in the final regional rankings. The freshman had a seven-match winning streak in singles matches during the season and finished with an overall record of 16-8. Setti was 9-5 at No. 4 singles and 5-0 at No. 5 singles. The Brazilian also played five matches at No. 3 singles and was 2-3 in those encounters.

Freshman Killian Guillou, who won his first 11 matches for the Mustangs, is the 20th-ranked singles player in the region after a 13-2 campaign. The Frenchman was 6-2 at No. 4 singles with two wins at No. 5 singles and a 5-0 record at No. 6 singles. Guillou was 7-1 against conference opponents.

Miret and Setti were a reliable pairing in doubles for Midwestern State, posting an 11-12 overall record. The young duo is No. 6 in the region in the final doubles rankings. Miret and Setti were 2-4 against nationally ranked opponents in doubles.

Diaz and Stephen Slocombe played No. 1 doubles in the final eight duals of the season and were 4-6 overall for the Mustangs. Five of the losses were to nationally ranked opponents, and the duo is No. 10 in the season-ending regional rankings.

Joaquin Bianchi of UT Tyler is the No. 1 singles player in the region after posting a 12-4 record at No. 1 singles for the Patriots. Bianchi closed out the regular season with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Diaz as UT Tyler narrowly defeated the Mustangs in the dual match, 4-3.

Tomas Almeida and Thomas Cardona of Cameron are the No. 1 doubles pairing in the region. The Aggies' No. 1 doubles team won eight of their final 10 matches, including a 6-3 victory over Diaz and Slocombe, as Cameron posted a 5-2 dual match victory at Midwestern State. Almeida and Cardona were 10-6 for the season.
