CANYON, Texas -- West Texas A&M's Ruby Salzman hit two home runs and Emilee Boyer pitched her first collegiate shutout as the No. 23-ranked Lady Buffs run-ruled Midwestern State 9-0 in five innings Tuesday night at Schaeffer Park.
Salzman connected on her 54th and 55th career home runs, while sophomore Riley Stiner launched a walk-off, two-run shot for her first collegiate homer in the fifth inning.
West Texas A&M (16-3, 7-3 LSC) put a run in the first on Salzman's first homer of the game, then scored three runs in the second inning.
Salzman highlighted another three-run outburst with a two-run blast over the center field scoreboard in the fourth inning before Stiner connected for a two-run shot to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Freshman
Allie Monroe accounted for two of MSU's four hits going 2-for-4 for a her team leading sixth multiple-hit game of the season, while
Kayla Bryant and
Levi Luna had one hit each.
Boyer weaved a four-hitter while recording seven strikeouts and one walk to improve to 7-1 in the circle, while freshman Sydney Gonzalez took the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 1-4 on the season allowing four earned runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Midwestern State and West Texas A&M close out the three-game series with a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. First pitches from Schaeffer Park are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
