OKLAHOMA CITY -- Midwestern State's
Sydney Shimkus extended her hitting streak to five games with a two-run double in the fourth inning Friday afternoon at Tom Heath Field.
But was the only offense the Mustangs could muster as Oklahoma Christian plated five runs in the second on the way to a 10-2 run-rule win in six innings.
Shimkus' five-game hitting streak is the longest of the season for the Mustang. The sophomore transfer has hits in nine of her last 11 games batting .385 (10-for-26) with two doubles and a home run.
Sophomore
Madisen Mann extended her hitting streak to four games with a leadoff single in the fifth inning before stealing her first base of the season.
But Oklahoma Christian junior Brooklin Bain drilled her first homer of the season -- a three-run shot to right field -- to spur a five-run second inning for the Eagles. She added two more singles to lead the OC attack by going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Aaliyah Brow tacked on a two-run single in the fourth inning and Marissa Powe extended Oklahoma Christian's lead to 8-2 with a run-scoring single to center field in the fifth.
Whitney Walde drilled an RBI-triple over the left fielders head in the sixth before Boo Robinson finished the Mustangs with a single to left field to score Walde.
Freshman Jill Dickson earned the win for OC improving to 14-4 in the circle allowing two runs on three hits while recording four strikeouts in four innings. Grace Anderson came on for two scoreless innings of relief.
Midwestern State sophomore
Zoe Isom (2-5) took the loss allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Grace Martinez and
Jessika Roberts also accounted for hits for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State fell to 5-29 on the season and 4-21 in Lone Star Conference play, while Oklahoma Christian moved to 23-11 and 18-10.
The Mustangs and Eagles close the series with a twin bill Saturday afternoon at Tom Heath Field. First pitches are set for 2 and 4 p.m.
