OKLAHOMA CITY -- Midwestern State's
Jessika Roberts drilled a two-run homer to culminate a four-run seventh inning to lift the Mustangs to a 6-4 win over Oklahoma Christian in the series finale Saturday afternoon at Tom Heath Field.
The junior from Forney also ignited the Mustangs' attack with a two-run on a drive over the center fielder's head in the third inning to pull MSU to within 4-2.
Roberts delivered her first multiple-hit game of the season, while driving four runs.
Her heroics nullified a fast start for the Eagles which scored three runs in the first and pushed the advantage to 4-0 when Brooklin Bain connected on her second homer of the weekend in the second inning.
Bain would finish with three hits and stole her 23rd base of the season, but it wouldn't be enough to hold off the Mustangs.
Junior
Christine Billmeier settled in to shut Oklahoma Christian down over the final five innings in her first start of the season.
The right-hander from Pilot Point scattered five hits over the final five frames to earn her first win in the circle for the Mustangs.
Still, MSU needed a rally in the top of the seventh inning to secure their first road win of the season.
Chloe Bryant legged out a bunt single to lead off the inning, then reached second on a
Kayla Bryant sacrifice.
Payton Griffin drew a walk to set up a golden opportunity for freshman
Morgan Brown.
And she came through with a solid single to right field for her first collegiate hit and RBI to pull MSU to within 4-3.
Sophomore
Sydney Shimkus followed with her third hit of the game on a single to center field to drive in Griffin and tie the game at 4-4.
Roberts followed with a home run over the center field fence.
Midwestern State improved to 6-30 on the season and 5-22 in Lone Star Conference play after averting the sweep.
OC's Payton Foster and Karsyn Iltis combined to shut out the Mustangs on a two-hitter in Game 1 on Saturday as the Eagles won, 6-0.
Midwestern State hosts Eastern New Mexico in a three-game Lone Star Conference series Thursday and Friday at Mustangs Park. The Mustangs and Greyhounds play doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. on Thursday before closing the series with a single game Friday at 1.
