Mustangs make first trip to Lubbock Christian for LSC dual match

LUBBOCK, Texas -- No. 33-ranked Midwestern State (11-5) completes a three-dual Lone Star Conference road trip when it squares off against Lubbock Christian (8-4) for the first time since 1982. First serve at Penny Gullo Tennis Center is scheduled for Tuesday at noon.

This is the first season of Lone Star Conference and NCAA competition for Lubbock Christian, which competed in the NAIA before disbanding the program following the 1981-82 school year. Midwestern State won its only previous meeting with Lubbock Christian, 4-2, in February of 1982.

The Mustangs are 2-1 in conference matches following a 6-1 loss at Angelo State on Saturday. Midwestern State is 3-3 on the road this season.

Hannah Yip has won four of her last five singles matches, including a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Letizia Corsini of Angelo State in her most recent match. Yip is 2-1 in conference matches and 7-7 overall in singles. The sophomore has played primarily in the No. 2 position.

Amelia Lawson has faced four nationally-ranked players this season and is 7-8 in singles. All 15 matches are in the No. 1 position for MSU. Lawson has lost her first three matches against conference foes.

Skyler Minns had an eight-match winning streak snapped with a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Ayda Guler of Angelo State at the No. 5 position, but Minns waltzed past Sterre Moerdijk of Texas A&M Kingsville a day earlier, 6-1, 6-0.

Emilija Viscic is 7-7 in singles this season and is looking to snap a three-match losing streak. Visic lost two tight sets to Christine Jevicky at No. 4 singles in San Angelo. Jevicky defeated the junior from Phoenix, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in their clash on Saturday.

Micaela McSpadden had a five-match winning streak in singles snapped with a 6-7 (3), 5-7 loss to Ramitha Irrinki in San Angelo. McSpadden has won four of her six matches in the No. 6 position and is 4-3 overall this year.

Alice Di Matteo scored a 2-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3 victory over Kyndall Quiroz in the conference opener against St. Mary's. Di Matteo retired in her match at Kingsville after the Mustangs had clinched, and she forced Eva Schwartz to three sets the following day in San Angelo but lost 3-6, 6-1, 1-6.

Sydney Williams has posted a 5-3 record in singles with two wins at the No. 5 position and three victories in the No. 6 slot. Williams is 1-0 in LSC matches, defeating Stela Sifuentes of St. Mary's, 6-2, 6-4.

Williams and Lawson have won five straight doubles matches and are 9-4 in the No. 1 doubles position this season.

Midwestern State is 12-3 in the No. 3 doubles position, led by Visic and Minns, who have paired together for a 7-1 record.

DiMatteo and Furtani have won two of their three conference matches in doubles and are 8-7 overall with six wins in the No. 2 doubles position.

Lubbock Christian has won four of its last six duals and is coming off a 5-2 victory over Texas A&M- Kingsville. The win at Javelina Tennis Courts on Saturday improved the Chaps' conference record to 1-2. LCU is 3-1 at home this season.

Freshman Anastasiia Opolska of Ukraine has won four consecutive singles matches, including a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ayda Guler of Angelo State in a 6-1 loss at ASU Tennis Courts for the Chaps on Friday.

Michelle Trochez is 6-3 in singles matches and has made her last three appearances in the No. 1 position. Trochez defeated Angela Vargas of St. Mary's in the No. 2 spot earlier this season, 6-2, 6-4. The freshman from Tomball, Texas, is coming off a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Dianela Rodriguez of Angelo State.

Emily-Bo Meyer had a six-match winning streak in singles snapped with 3-6, 7-5, 0-6 loss to Southwest Baptist on March 4.

Herath Oshini is 5-1 in the No. 4 position, and the Chaps are 8-3 overall at No. 4 singles.

Axelle Jacquemin and Troches have won four of their last five doubles matches in the No. 1 position, including a 7-6 (5) victory over Guler and Irrinki of Angelo State on Saturday.

Khrustaleva and Opolska have won four of six doubles matches in the No. 2 position but are 0-1 in conference with a 4-6 loss to St. Mary's last month.

The Chaps are 2-4 in doubles matches against conference opponents this season.

Midwestern State returns home for a dual-match against Western New Mexico on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
