WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Alyssa LeBlanc pitched a one-hit, complete-game shutout and hit her 15th home run of the season as Texas Woman's defeated Midwestern State at Mustangs Park on Saturday afternoon, 9-0.
Sydney Shimkus led off the second inning with a base hit up the middle, and
Payton Griffin worked a walk as the Mustangs put runners at first and second with no outs.
LeBlanc struck out the next three batters she faced and would retire 15 straight Mustangs before
Allie Monroe worked a walk to lead off the seventh inning.
The junior transfer from Texas A&M-Commerce struck out the final three batters she faced, finishing the game with 11 strikeouts and allowing just one hit. LeBlanc improved to 10-7 on the season.
It's the ninth time this season that Midwestern State has been held to one hit or less.
The Pioneers scored their first run in the third inning, when Makana Morton drove in Delaney Boley with a double to left field.
Lauren Trinh drove home a run with a base hit in the fourth inning for the Pioneers, and Hannah Schettler added a three-run homer as TWU pulled away with a 5-0 lead through four innings. Schettler hit her second home run of the season.
Kennedy Cameron made her ninth start in the circle for MSU and lasted four innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits with seven walks and two strikeouts. Cameron is 1-7 this season for the Mustangs.
Levi Luna worked three innings for Midwestern State and yielded four runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
LeBlanc capped the scoring in the seventh inning with a solo home run. Ciana Rodriguez led off the inning with a single and stole second. Rodriguez scored on two throwing errors, and the bases were empty when LeBlanc sent a towering shot well beyond the fence in left-center field.
The series continues at Mustangs Park on Sunday with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the second game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
