KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Hannah Yip,
Skylar Minns and
Micaela McSpadden posted straight-set wins in singles, and No. 33-ranked Midwestern State (11-4) easily captured the doubles point Friday afternoon on its way to a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-7) at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
Alice Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani got the Mustangs off to a good start with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. The duo improved to 8-6 on the season with their win over Annika Andersson Gomez and Sterre Fleur Moerdijk.
Amelia Lawson and
Sydney Williams won their fourth consecutive doubles match, defeating Raina Zaffar and Alessa Maier in the No. 1 doubles match, 6-1. Lawson and Williams, ranked No. 38 in the country, have won their last four doubles matches and are 8-4 this season.
Minns and
Emilija Visic remain undefeated as a pairing in doubles with a 6-3 triumph over Manuela Turolo and Milou Ter Morsche in the No. 3 doubles match.
Minns remains undefeated in singles following a routine 6-1, 6-0 victory over Moerdijk in No. 5 singles. Minns is 8-0 in singles and 10-3 in doubles this season.
Yip has won three of her last four singles matches after coasting to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Zaffar in the No. 2 singles position. The sophomore from Malaysia improved to 6-7 in singles for the Mustangs.
McSpadden clinched the dual-match for Midwestern State with her fourth consecutive victory in the No. 6 slot, handing Andersson Gomez a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. McSpadden is 4-1 in the No. 6 position and 4-2 in singles overall.
The Mustangs face No. 29-ranked Angelo State on the second leg of their road trip. First serve at the ASU Tennis Complex is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
