WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 25-ranked Midwestern State (10-3) returns home after winning three of its four duals in California. The Mustangs host Missouri Western (7-2) at MSU Tennis Center on Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Midwestern State is facing the Griffons for the first time in the history of the program.
The Mustangs have a three-dual winning streak and are 5-0 at home this season.
Skylar Minns is 7-0 in singles for MSU with four victories coming in the No. 5 position.
Emilija Visic has opened the season with a 7-4 record in singles, playing 10 matches in the No. 4 position and winning her only match at No. 3 singles. Visic defeated Alex Mann of Biola in her most recent match, 6-2, 6-0.
Sydney Williams had a five-match winning streak snapped with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Elise Leik of Fresno Pacific, and Williams is 6-4 in singles matches this season.
Amelia Lawson is 7-6 and has won three of her last five singles matches in the No. 1 position for the Mustangs.
Alice Di Matteo is 6-3 in the No. 3 spot for MSU this season and lost a third-set tiebreak to Nayuma Subba of Fresno Pacific in the No. 2 position on March 16.
Minns and Visic are 5-0 as a doubles team after posting a 6-1 victory over Alex Mann and Amelia Kitts of Biola.
Visic improved to 6-1 in doubles overall. Visic has played with both Minns and
Hannah Yip this season.
Williams and Lawson are 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and have won their last two matches over Biola and Fresno Pacific.
Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani are 7-5 as a doubles team, including a 5-5 record at No. 2 doubles and a 2-0 mark at No. 3 doubles.
Midwestern State is 22-13 overall in doubles this season.
Missouri Western is 7-2 overall this season but lost its only away match at Missouri State, 5-1. The Griffons have swept five opponents, 7-0, and won two other duals, 6-1.
The only common opponent this season for the two programs is Cowley College. Missouri Western defeated the Tigers, 6-1, when they met on Feb. 26. Midwestern State posted a 4-3 victory in their encounter with Cowley College on Feb. 18.
Lucia Casas Blas is 8-0 in singles for the Griffons and has won her last two matches in the No. 4 position.
Anya Chavez is coming off a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Dana Issabayena of Newman in a No. 1 singles match and improved to 7-1 for the season. Chavez has won six matches in the No. 2 position for Missouri Western.
Ariella Curci is 5-0 overall in singles for the Griffons and has won her last two matches in the No. 6 slot. Curci is 3-0 in No. 4 singles. Curci won nine consecutive sets before losing the second set to Amber Hands of Newman, 6-1.
Cristina Granero Boj is 5-1 in singles for Missouri Western and has played all matches in the No. 3 position. Granero Boj has won her last three matches since dropping a three-set decision to Fiorella Duran of Saint Louis.
Chavez is 5-2 in doubles and has won three of her last four matches. Paired with Granero Boj against Newman, the duo prevailed at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Chavez is 4-2 this season when playing alongside Anais Peralta.
Curci has won four consecutive doubles matches from the No. 3 position, including the last two with Casas Blas. Curci has also teamed with Izzi MacGibbon and Granero Boj. Curci is 5-1 in doubles overall.
Missouri Western is 13-8 overall in doubles matches this season.
Midwestern State is on the road to face Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday, and the Mustangs visit Angelo State on Saturday. Both Lone Star Conference duals get underway at noon.
