WICHITA FALLS, Texas – For the second consecutive day a six-run inning doomed Midwestern State as UT Permian Basin defeated the Mustangs in the final game of the series at Mustangs Park on Sunday afternoon, 7-1.

Jessika Roberts reached on a lead-off walk in the second inning. After stealing second base, Roberts came in to score on two Falcon throwing errors. MSU led 1-0 through three innings.
The Falcons scored six runs with two outs in the fourth inning. Angelina Arriaga delivered an RBI triple to tie the game, 1-1. Arriaga scored when Aubree Beggs reached on an error. Aracely Araiza drove in Beggs with a base hit to left. Araiza and Emily Andress came home on an error after Keri Sanford singled. Sanford scored on Julia Bumford's single to right field, but Bumford was thrown at second to end the inning. UTPB scored six runs on six hits and took advantage of two MSU errors in the frame.
UTPB scored six runs in the sixth inning of the series opener en route to a 7-4 victory on Saturday, but the Mustangs rebounded with a 2-1 triumph in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
Destini Trahan earned her second win of the series on Sunday, improving to 3-9 with a complete game victory. Trahan held the Mustangs to three hits. The senior hurler struck out four and walked one.
Allie Monroe hit her sixth double of the season to left field in the first inning and finished the series 4 for 10 with two extra-base hits, including a triple in the first game on Saturday.
Sydney Shimkus and
Bailey Brenek accounted for the other two Mustang hits.
Taylor McKenzie made her 11th start of the season for Midwestern State and worked seven innings in the circle, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks. McKenzie threw her second complete game of the campaign, but her record fell to 0-8.
Midwestern State is 3-22 overall with a 2-16 record in the LSC. UTPB improved to 6-17 and is 3-12 in conference play.
The Mustangs travel to UT Tyler to face the No. 4-ranked Patriots in a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch at UT Tyler Softball Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
