TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler's Tatum Goff pitched her second collegiate no-hitter to lead the No. 4-ranked Patriots to an 8-0 run-rule win in five innings over Midwestern State Friday night at Irwin Field.
Goff rang up 12 strikeouts victimizing all nine hitters in MSU's lineup at least once and retired the first 12 hitters she faced. The junior transfer from Kansas hit
Maegan Shannon with a pitch to lead off the fifth inning to end her bid at perfection. That would be the only runner she would allow.
Ironically, Goff hit the first batter she faced in her previous no-hitter against West Texas A&M last May before retiring the next 15 in a 10-0 win.
Goff remained perfect improving to 17-0 in the circle, lowering her ERA to a Lone Star Conference best 1.26.
It was the fourth time a Midwestern State team has been no-hit with all four coming against teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25. The Mustangs were no-hit by No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 3 Texas A&M-Kingsville during the 2019 season after suffering their first no-hitter against No. 25 Texas Woman's in 2014.
UT Tyler sophomore Sam Schott belted her first homer of the season with her second career grand slam to highlight a six-run fourth inning after junior Courtney Plocheck started scoring in the frame with a two-run triple down the right-field line.
Michelle Arias put the Patriots on the board with an RBI-double to the left-field gap as UT Tyler put two runs on the board in the second inning.
Junior
Kennedy Cameron (1-5) took the loss for the Mustangs allowing eight runs on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts over four innings.
Midwestern State closes the series with a doubleheader against UT Tyler Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field. First pitches are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
