KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Midwestern State bounced back to beat MSU Denver 4-1 Saturday morning at Nebraska-Kearney's Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
The Mustangs leveled their season record at 1-1, while the Roadrunners fell to 3-2.
For the second straight match, the Mustangs claimed the doubles point after splitting the first two position coming off of the courts.
Junior
Skylar Minns and sophomore
Micaela McSpadden moved into the No. 2 doubles position and clinched the doubles points for MSU for the second straight day. The duo beat MSU Denver's Marie Cool and Hanna Haber, 6-4.
The win followed a split in the other two doubles matches.
MSU claimed the victory at No. 3 with
Alice Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani combining for a 6-3 win, then the Roadrunners claimed a 6-4 win at the top doubles' position with Kinsey Fields and Isabel Heras beating MSU's
Sydney Williams and
Amelia Lawson, 6-4.
Midwestern State increased it advantage to 3-0 by taking the first two singles matches off of the courts.
Lawson cruised past Heras 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1, then Di Matteo claimed a split set win over Cool -- 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Metro State claimed its only point of the match with Fields battling for a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win over Yip at No. 2.
But Midwestern State junior
Emilija Visic closed the door on the Roadrunners by taking a 6-4, 6-4 win over Haber at No. 4.
MSU's
Skylar Minns had a set in hand at No. 5 singles, while McSpadden was tied 3-3 at No. 6 when the match was clinched.
Midwestern State closed out the Nebraska trip with a match against Augustana Saturday afternoon.
