Hot-shooting Greyhounds roll past Midwestern State, 80-55

PORTALES, N.M. -- Hot-shooting Eastern New Mexico buried a season-high 13 3-pointers on the way to an 80-55 rout of Midwestern State Thursday night at Greyhound Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED >>>

Eastern New Mexico used a pair of 9-0 runs in the first period to take control of the game, extended the lead to 18 points in the second period, and led by as many as 34 points in the second half.

Six different Greyhounds connected on 3-pointers with ENMU finishing the game knocking down 13-of-30 for a 43.3 percentage from beyond the arc.

Junior Ashley Shipley drilled four 3-pointers, while Julieta Ceja, Deja Adrian, Corin Camara, and Marley Freeman hit two 3-pointers each. All five women shot 50 percent from beyond the arc.

- Midwestern State junior Natalie Stice scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting with a 3-pointer playing at her former school. It was her 15th game with at least 10 points this season.
- MSU senior Markayla Johnson matched Stice with a team-high 11 points going 3-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. It was her second game this season in double figures.
- MSU freshman Dyamon Griggs was limited to four field goal attempts in 20 minutes finishing with five points and six rebounds. The Waco native was 9-of-10 from the field.
- ENMU junior Deja Adrian paced the Greyhounds with a game-high 21 points going 9-of-14 from the field with two 3-pointers. It was seven performance of 20-or-more points this season.
- Junior guard Ashley Shipley buried a season-high four 3-pointers on her way to matching campaign-high with 18 points.

GAME NOTES >>>

- Eastern New Mexico buried a season-high 13 3-pointers on 30 attempts on the way to scoring 80-or-more points for the second time this season.
- The 25-point deficit matched the largest margin of defeat for the Mustangs this season. MSU lost 97-72 in the season opener at Adams State. 
- Midwestern State lost for the sixth time in its last seven trips to Portales, but lead the overall series against Eastern New Mexico, 31-24.
- The Mustangs slipped to 5-17 on the season and to 3-13 in Lone Star Conference play.
- Eastern New Mexico leveled its season record at 10-10 while improve to 7-8 in league play.
