WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State takes on two traditionally strong junior college programs Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs play top-ranked Cowley College at 10 a.m. before taking on No. 6-ranked Collin College at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State fell to NJCAA No. 3-ranked Tyler Junior College Friday afternoon in Tyler. Luis Diaz Argente and Juan David Duque provided the highlight for the Mustangs beating Tim Riedel and Andrew Change at No. 2 doubles, 6-3. Diaz Argente also extended No. 2-ranked Diego Dalisay to a third set before falling 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Senior Charles Heffernan was on the verge of winning at No. 2 singles before the match was clinched leading Juan Carlos Garcia 3-6, 6-4, 5-4.

MUSTANGS IN THE ITA RANKINGS | The Mustangs boast four student-athletes in the November release of the South Central Region. Senior Charles Heffernan is ranked seventh, followed by Juan David Duque at No. 8, Marcal Miret Avante at No. 13, and Germano Setti at No. 18. As a team, MSU received votes in the most recent ITA poll released on Friday.

QUICK SERVES | Senior Luis Diaz Argente played a strong debut at No. 1 singles by extended NJCAA No. 2-ranked Diego Dalisay to three sets. He is also 3-2 at the No. 2 position this season... Sophomore Marcal Miret Avante had his four-match winning streak snapped in a 6-3, 6-2 setback to Tyler JC's Tim Riedel on Friday. Miret Avante boasts a 4-1 mark while moving from the No. 5 position to the No. 3 this spring... Freshman Killian Guillou boasts a 3-0 record in his debut season playing primarily at No. 6. His last two matches were abandoned... Germano Setti and Marcal Miret Avante are 3-3 at No. 1 doubles and own a highlight win over No. 10-ranked Mason Meier and Jan Skerbatis of Southeastern Oklahoma... Juan David Duque and Luis Diaz Argente have won their last two doubles matches to improve to 4-2 playing at the No. 2 position...

SCOUTING THE TIGERS | Cowley County plays its first two team matches of the season this weekend at Midwestern State on Saturday and Cameron on Sunday... The Tigers finished as national runners-up at the 2022 NJCAA Championships... Cowley boasts eight players ranked in the most recent ITA singles rankings including Takeshi Taco at No. 1, Reiya Komagata at No. 3, Bruno Nhavene at No. 7, Boruch Skierkier at No. 8, Hanamichi Carvajal at No. 21, Taiyo Hirano at No. 24, Sergio Gonzalez at No. 26, and Leandro Zgraggen at No. 36... The Tigers also possess four doubles teams receving a national ranking including Boruch Skierkier and Bruno Nhavene at No. 1; Takeshi Taco and Reiya Komagata at No. 3; Leandro Zgraggen and Hanamichi Carvajal at No. 8; and Sergio Gonzalez and Taiyo Hirano at No. 13...

SCOUTING THE COUGARS | Collin College fell to 0-5 in dual play this season with a 6-1 loss to Harding (Ark.) on Friday. The Cougars have also lost to UT Permian Basin (5-4), Incarnate Word (6-1), UT Tyler (5-2), and Cameron (5-2)... Collin College finished fifth in the 2022 NJCAA Championships... The Cougars have seven players ranked in the latest ITA national singles rankings including Joseph Restrepo at No. 27, Seth Seely at No. 30, Djordje Kurcubic at No. 32, Tristan Vigneron at No. 33, Luis Ching at No 34, Gianni Lopez La Mantia at No. 39, and Jackson Fenton at No. 42... Collin County also boasts a pair of nationally ranked doubles teams in No. 12-ranked Luis Ching and Tristan Vigneron and No. 17-ranked Djordje Kurcubic and Seth Seely...
