Mustangs are on the road to face Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday

DURANT, Okla. -- Midwestern State embarks on a four-game road trip as it visits Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon for its first regular season game away from D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff at Bloomer Sullivan Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Mustangs lost their first two games in the Ashbrook Conference Challenge. UC Colorado Springs defeated MSU on opening day, 83-65. Adams State trailed the Mustangs, 67-65, entering the fourth quarter on Saturday, but the Grizzlies pulled away for a 102-84 victory.

Zarria Carter announced her presence on the MSU campus with a remarkable performance. Carter was 13 of 17 from the field and scored 34 points against Adams State. The junior from Mansfield, Texas, also pulled down 18 rebounds in the loss. Carter is leading Midwestern State with 21.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game. Carter leads the Lone Star Conference in rebounding and is the second leading scorer in the conference.

Kertisa Amos was impressive in her first two appearances as a Mustang. The fifth-year senior from Burleson led MSU with 16 points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes during the season opener. She finished with 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting and also had five rebounds, four steals and four assists against Adams State on Saturday. Amos is eighth in the LSC with 19 points per game and second on the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.

Nikki Green is averaging 9.5 points per game and had seven steals in her first two appearances.

Eternity Jackson opened the season with a 12-point performance against UC Colorado Springs. Jackson was 3 of 7 from the field and hit 5 of 7 free throws against the Mountain Lions.

The Mustangs are shooting 34.2 percent from the field overall, but they are just 4 of 29 from 3-point range (13.8 percent).

Green, Jackson, Kyla Speights and Catalina Cortez have each converted once from beyond the arc for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State opened the season with a 29-of-48 performance from the free-throw line and is 45 of 69 (65.2 percent) at the free-throw line through two games. Carter leads the team at the free-throw line, shooting 81.3 percent (13 of 16).

Midwestern State has lost six of its last eight meetings with Southeastern Oklahoma, including a 71-65 loss at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last year. Briley Moon scored 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting and hit 3-of-5 shots from 3-point range in the victory for the Savage Storm. Natalie Stice led Midwestern State with 24 points in defeat.

The Mustangs have only won twice in 11 trips to Durant, Oklahoma. Midwestern State lost its last visit in December of 2009, 73-61.

Southeastern is 2-1 following a 63-55 win its home opener against Southwest Assemblies of God on Tuesday night. Lauren Beason came off the bench and scored 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor, all from 3-point range, to lead the Savage Storm.

Catlin Kobiske and Grace Alverson each finished with 10 points in the victory. Kobiske had eight rebounds, while Ashton Hackler, Holli Lindley and Beasley each grabbed six boards for Southeastern.

Kobiske leads the Savage Storm with 14.7 points, and she grabs nine rebounds per game. The 5-10 forward from Keller, Texas, also has seven steals and a block this season.

Beason is scoring 12.3 points and grabbing 5.7 rebounds per game. Holli is pulling down a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game. Aimee Alverson leads the team with eight assists through three games.

Midwestern State travels to Shawnee, Oklahoma, on Tuesday night to face Oklahoma Baptist at the Noble Complex. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
