WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Dallas Baptist extended its unbeaten streak to 12 matches and defeated Midwestern State for the seventh consecutive time in the series with a 3-1 victory at Stang Park on Saturday night.
Cassidy Savoy scored her second goal of the season in the 49th minute to bring Midwestern State to within one goal after conceding twice in the first half.
Allessandra Romano lifted a ball into the box as Savoy made a run toward goal in the center-forward channel. Savoy volleyed a one-timer past a leaping Carmen Lopez. The DBU goalkeeper reached up with her right hand, but Savoy was able to tuck the shot under the crossbar.
Savoy earned at least one point for the third time in the last four matches for MSU.
DBU reestablished a two-goal lead in the 53rd minute when defender Parker Coe scored her first goal of the season off a Taylor Tufts corner kick. Lopez stopped a
Taryn Sueltz shot in the 59th minute, and DBU held on for the 3-1 victory.
Lopez made two saves in the opening 17 minutes, stopping a Savoy shot in the 4th minute and denying
Isabella Cruz a goal in the 17th minute.
The Patriots scored their first goal in the 34th minute when Coe played a ball over the top from halfway, sending it up the left side, and landing in the path of Haley Roberson, who assisted on Tufts strike from the top of the box.
DBU kept extended pressure on the Mustangs in the attacking third before Madison Parks found Joeli Benson on the right wing in the 40th minute. Benson delivered a low cross to the near post, and Sophia Schrock was able to go high with a one-timer to give the Patriots a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
The Patriots improved to 8-0-4 overall with a 5-0-3 record in the Lone Star Conference and are two points behind Texas Woman's for first place.
Midwestern State had a four-match unbeaten streak snapped and is now 3-3-3 in conference play, sitting in seventh place — one point behind Lubbock Christian and one point in front of St. Edward's.
The Mustangs are three points behind Texas A&M International and Angelo State, which both have 15 points and are tied for the fourth position on the table. Midwestern State is 6-4-5 overall this season.
Midwestern State is back at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the second match of a three-match homestand. West Texas A&M, which is 0-5-3 in the LSC this season, pays a visit before a showdown with Lubbock Christian on Halloween.
