WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State looks to extend its home unbeaten streak to 21 games as it begins a three-game homestand against Ouachita Baptist in the 2026 home opener on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Mustangs opened the season on Thursday night with a 5-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist at OBU Soccer Complex in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Mustangs scored three goals in the opening nine minutes and only allowed three shots in the victory.
Annabella Pillow opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Ella Adams followed with a goal in the seventh minute, and
Allie Cifuentes scored in the ninth minute.
McKynzi Hailey added a goal in the 27th minute to give the Mustangs a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Lexi Gonzales converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to complete the scoring.
Midwestern State is 2-1-0 in its three previous meetings with Ouachita Baptist, which earned a 3-2 victory over the Mustangs at Kluck Field in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, last season. MSU outshot Ouachita Baptist 36-8 and had four more shots on goal, but the Tigers scored on all three of their shots on goal.
Olivia Erskine scored twice in a five-minute span of the second half to give Ouachita a 2-0 lead, but the Stangs pulled even as
Jasmine Montgomery and
Abbey Lee scored. Lee's goal came in the 88th minute, but the Tigers scored one minute later as McKenna Wright netted the game winner in the 89th minute.
Ouachita opened its season at home on Thursday night but dropped a 2-1 decision to Northeastern State. Wright scored in the seventh minute for the Tiger on a penalty kick in the seventh minute, but the lead only stood for 11 minutes. Annabella Trotter scored in the 18th minute for the Riverhawks, who netted the game winner in the 86th minute when Gracie Holmes scored.
Dominique Klujian made six saves for the Tigers, who were outshot by Northeastern State, 23-19. The Tigers put seven of their shots on goal in the season opener.
The Great American Conference coaches picked Ouachita to finish third in the preseason poll, but the Tigers finished just two points behind Harding in the poll with 29 points. Ouachita finished third in the seven-team league last season and has been among the top three in the GAC in three of the last four seasons, including a conference championship in 2024.
Ouachita finished last season with an 8-7-5 overall record and lost to Harding, 1-0, in the GAC tournament final after posting a 6-2-4 record in conference play. The Tigers were 3-6-2 on the road last season.
Ouachita is making its third appearance at Stang Park and has failed to score a goal in their first two visits. Midwestern State posted a 5-0 victory in 1999 and four years later the Mustangs prevailed, 3-0.
Midwestern State has not lost a match at home since a 3-1 loss to Dallas Baptist in October of 2023. The Mustangs were 7-0-1 at home last year.
Midwestern State returns to Stang Park on Thursday night for a match against Colorado Mesa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
