PORTALES, N.M. -- Midwestern State's
Ella Pando led a pack of seven Mustangs to set person best marks on the way to a third-place showing Saturday morning in the Lone Star Conference Championships at the ENMU Cross Country Course.
Pando, who placed 15th with a 6K time of 22:53.66, became the 22nd MSU harrier to earn All-LSC honors and first since Amerhyst Aguirre earned all-league honors in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
She was chased closely by freshman
Jaycee Lyons (23:00.99) and sophomore
Jadyn Dangerfield (23:05.90), who also set PRs to place 16th and 19th, respectively.
Fifth-year senior
Elizabeth Butzke placed 23rd with a time of 23:20.62, while
Rosalene Reyes Perez capped MSU's countable runners by finishing 45th with a time of 23:34.79.
All told, the Mustangs amassed 112 points to finish comfortably in third place to enjoy their best finish sicnce winning the LSC title in 2018.
MSU has improved in each of
Kelsey Bruce's three seasons at the helm, going from seventh in 2021, fifth in 2022, and to third on Saturday. The Mustangs also improved an impressive season team finish percentage to .833 (60-12).
West Texas A&M snapped DBU's two-year run as league champions by claiming its first league title since winning consecutive crowns in 2012 and 2013.
The Lady Buffs logged 20 points to outdistance the Patriots, who finished with 50.
WT senior Eleonora Curtabbi claimed the individual title, completing the 6K loop in 20:27.91 as the Lady Buffs finished 1-2-3 and placed six runners in the Top 10.
Midwestern State's
Arianna Carballeira (24:35.38/46th),
Jazira Perez (25:44.20/66th), and
Perla Flores (25:50.15) also ran personal best times.
Midwestern State competes in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships set for Saturday, November 4 at the LCU Cross Country Course in Lubbock.
