Midwestern State outlasts Eagles in OT, 71-67

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior Markayla Johnson's long 2-pointer with 8 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game to overtime before Midwestern State outscored Oklahoma Christian to take 71-67 win Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED >>>

Midwestern State surrendered 10-point lead in the fourth quarter before Markayla Johnson sent the game to overtime with a long jumper with her toe on the 3-point line with 8 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Mustangs scored the final six points of the overtime period with Natalie Stice hitting a pair of layups in transition before Johnson connected on a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to put the game away.

The Mustangs took advantage of an intentional foul to score eight consecutive points in the second period bookended by a layup and then a 3-pointer from the right wing by Sheridan Bostic.

In between, Oklahoma Christian junior Brooklyn Bain was whistled for an intentional foul for elbowing MSU freshman Makenzee Boucher resulting in a pair of free throws by Bostic as the Mustangs entended their lead tout to 34-22 just 35 seconds before halftime.

- Midwestern State junior Natalie Stice led the Mustangs with 13 points and five rebounds. It was her fifth consecutive game scoring at least 10 points.
- MSU Sheridan Bostic scored in double figures for the fourth time this season. The senior guard scored 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting going 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
- MSU senior Mandy Withey scored seven points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. It was her seventh game this season with 10-or-more boards.
- Oklahoma Christian's Brooklyn Bain scored a season-high 22 points and completed her sixth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles.

GAME NOTES >>>

- Midwestern State improved to 2-1 in overtime games this season. The Mustangs defeated St. Mary's 82-81 in double overtime on Dec. 12 after falling to St. Edward's 63-56 on Dec. 10.
- The Mustangs snapped a three-game slide to improve to 5-14 overall and 3-10 in league play.
- MSU has won the last three and five of the last six against against Oklahoma Christian.
- Oklahoma Christian fell to 1-8 on the road the season. The Eagles went to 3-14 overall and to 3-10 in LSC play.
