WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- After winning the doubles point, No. 40 Midwestern State fell in singles play to No. 32 Northwestern State in Friday's nonconference battle. The Bearcats overcame the Mustangs 4-1 at MSU Tennis Center.
The home loss cut the Mustangs' six-match win streak. The team stands at 10-6 for the season.
The second-ranked duo of
Alex Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick grabbed a 6-4 win at line one. The duo's seventh consecutive win was over Andrea Zamurri and Filippo Piranomonte.
Marcal Miret Avante and
Stephen Slocombe's 7-6 (7-5) victory secured the first point for MSU. The pair won their last three matches at line three.
Northwest Missouri State clawed their way back through singles play. No. 16 Martinez Roca and Miret Avante each suffered their second loss of the season. Victories at lines two and four clinched the win for the Bearcats.
Midwestern State hosts No. 29 UT Tyler on Sunday. The Lone Star Conference foes face off at 2 p.m. at MSU Tennis Center.
