Andrei, Mustangs stay focused in 4-3 win over No. 29 UT Tyler

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Stefan Andrei regained his focus as tensions boiled over to provide the difference in Midwestern State's 4-3 win over No. 29-ranked UT Tyler Sunday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Mustangs improved to 11-6 on the season and remained perfect at 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The freshman Galati, Romania found his composure after UT Tyler's Jonas Dixon rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to pull even at 4-all. But Andrei turned up the energy to take the next two games to claim the opening set 6-4.

Andrei proved he doesn't rattle easily as he remained calm through an on-court disagreement between the teams on his way to taking the second set 6-3 to secure the win for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State swept doubles with the No. 2-ranked tandem of Alex Martinez Roca and Ben Westwick clinching the point with a 6-4 win over UT Tyler's No. 47-ranked duo of Gonzalo Fernandez and Moritz Mayer.

Marcal Miret Avante and Stephen Slocombe put the Mustangs out on a positive step with a 6-3 win over Safar Rasulov and Yudai Watanabe at No. 3 doubles, while Brice Bradshaw and Corbin Ford combined for a 6-4 victory over Joaquin Bianchi and Dixon at No. 2.

Martinez Roca swept past the 29th-ranked Bianchi 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Westwick beat Rasulov 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to set up Andrei for the clincher.

UT Tyler pulled to within 3-2 claiming wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions before Andrei finished off the Patriots, who fell to 9-8 overall and 5-1 in LSC play.

Midwestern State takes on No. 35 Cameron in a Lone Star Conference tilt Tuesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
