WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State and Cameron battle in the 57th Red River Rivalry meeting on Tuesday. MSU Tennis Courts host the 40th-ranked Mustangs and 35th-ranked Aggies at 1 p.m.
MSU searches for its fifth consecutive LSC victory.
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
After splitting their weekend matches, the Mustangs are 11-6 on the season. The team is undefeated in Lone Star Conference play after its 4-3 defeat of UT Tyler. Midwestern State also has league victories over UAFS, Western New Mexico, and UT Permian Basin. MSU jumped to the 40th spot in last week's ITA national rankings. MSU is 6-4 when playing at home this season.
Alex Martinez Roca ranks 16th in the nation in singles play with an 8-2 record from line one. The senior collected six consecutive wins before tallying his second loss on Friday. The Castelldefels, Spain, product is undefeated in LSC play with four victories. His 67 career singles wins ties for third in MSU history while his 111 combined wins are 11th in the program record books.
Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick rank second in the nation in doubles play. The duo has a 14-1 record, including a win over No. 9-ranked Francisco Oliveira and Santiago Kearney of Ouachita Baptist. Martinez Roca and Westwick's only drop was to Southern Arkansas on March 12. The pair won their last eight matches, including four LSC battles.
Westwick is 8-8 in singles play this season. The junior is 3-2 at the Mustangs' third line and 3-1 at line four.
Westwick is undefeated in his four Lone Star Conference matches.
Brice Bradshaw is 9-7 in all singles play this year, going 6-3 in the last ten matches. The sophomore has eight victories at line two. The Hoover, Ala. native has one win against a ranked opponent. He beat 60th-ranked Stipan Madzar of Southeastern Oklahoma State on March 23. Bradshaw teamed with
Corbin Ford to win their last three matches at No. 2 doubles.
Marcal Miret Avante is 6-3 in his last ten matches and is 6-3 at line three. The freshman lost his first Lone Star Conference match on Sunday afternoon. Miret Avante and
Stephen Slocombe won their last four matches at doubles line three. The duo is 8-6 for the year.
Charles Heffernan is 9-6 playing at line five while
Stefan Andrei has a 6-0 record at No. 6. Andrei won his last seven matches, including four in LSC play. The freshman clinched MSU's Sunday match against UT Tyler.
AT THE HELM
Scott Linn enters his 12th season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's and women's tennis programs in 2021-22. He guided the Mustangs to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances since arriving in Wichita Falls in the fall of 2010. The Mustangs have thrived under Linn's leadership as he revived the program to the highest level. Under Linn, the men's program posted a 180-89 (.669) mark with seven NCAA Tournament appearances. The team advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019 after a five-year absence from the postseason.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is 9-6 for the 2022 season with wins in their last two matches. The Aggies are 6-1 in away matches and have a 2-1 Lone Star Conference record. The team's sole loss was to UT Tyler on March 25. CU is No. 35 in last week's ITA National Rankings.
Thomas Cardona is 20th in the ITA National Singles Rankings. The freshman from Medellin, Colombia, is 12-2 for the year with a 9-0 record at line two. He won his last 11 matches. Sophomore Tomas Almeida holds the 55th spot in the rankings. He is 7-4 at line one for the Aggies. Cardona and Almeida have a 10-3 record at doubles line three with an eight-match streak.
Carlos Vidal is 5-3 at singles line three this season. The sophomore from Girona, Spain is undefeated in LSC play. Freshman Kristian Kubik lost his last three matches at line four though he is 3-0 at line five. Together, Vidal and Kubik have three wins at doubles line one. The duo dropped their league match against UT Tyler.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State is 30-26 in the Red River Rivalry against Cameron. The Aggies lead in conference play with a 10-12 record. In the 2021 LSC meeting, CU bested MSU 6-1 in Lawton, Okla. The Mustangs are 13-5 when facing Cameron at home.

Midwestern State travels to San Antonio, Texas, to face St. Mary's in an LSC road match. The Mustangs and the Rattlers face off on Friday at Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
