TROPHY CLUB, Texas -- Midwestern State competes in its eighth tournament of the season Monday and Tuesday in the Texas A&M-Commerce Lion Invitational on the Whitworth Course at the Trophy Club Country Club.
The 54-hole tournament tees off Monday with two continuous rounds beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

1 |Â Â Midwestern State is rated 20th in the GolfStat national rankings and is one of five teams in the Lion Invitational field ranked in the Top 50 joining No. 6 Arkansas Tech, No. 18 Central Missouri, No. 32 Cameron and No. 34 Texas A&M-Commerce.
Midwestern State ranked second in the first official NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings released on March 18. Oklahoma Christian led the way followed by MSU, Colorado State-Pueblo, Texas A&M-Commerce, St. Mary's (Texas), Colorado Christian, Cameron, UC Colorado Springs, Colorado Mesa, Westminster (Utah) and Western New Mexico. The top eight teams and three individuals not part of an advancing team advance to the NCAA Division I West/South Central Region Championship set for May 5-7 at the Pueblo (Colo.) Country Club.
2 |Â Â MSU finished no lower than third in five fall tournaments. The Mustangs won the Midwestern State Invitational by 10 strokes and had three runner-up finishes in the Bob Writz Invitational, RJGA South Central Shootout and in the Farmers Insurance Sam Proal West/South Central Region Preview. MSU placed third in the final finale at The Hrnciar Classic. The Mustangs opened the spring semester with a fifth-place showing in the Houston Open then battled to a fourth-place showing at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational. MSU boasts a .876 (85-12) finish percentage through the first seven tournaments of the 2021-22 season.
3 |Â Â Midwestern State competes in the Lion Invitational for the second time with the event hosted at the Trophy Club Country Club. The Mustangs finished in a tie for second last spring carding scores of 288 and 289 for a 1-over total of 577. MSU finished in a tie with Cameron and Oklahoma Christian and were just a stroke behind Hutchinson CC.
Jake Doggett tied for second marking scores of 70 and 69 for a 5-under 139.
