PORTALES, N.M. -- Midwestern State takes on Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference game Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. (Central Time).

Midwestern State fell to No. 1 Lubbock Christian -- 66-52 -- Thursday night at Rip Griffin Center... The Mustangs fell to 0-2 all time when facing the top-ranked team in the NABC Division II Poll also falling to MSU Denver -- 78-56 -- in the 2014 South Central Regional Championship at the Auraria Event Center in Denver... The Mustangs are tied for ninth in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 4-5 record along with Angelo State and UT Permian Basin... MSU is 3-9 away from Ligon Coliseum this season including a 3-8 mark in true road games and a neutral site loss to Minnesota-Crookston in the Dacotah Bank Classic in Aberdeen, S.D... MSU snapped a five-game run of shooting better than 40 percent from the field by going 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) Thursday night at Lubbock Christian... The Mustangs were limited to a season-low two 3-pointers on 17 attempts (11.8 percent)... The two made 3-pointers were the fewest since MSU connected on two treys in 13 attempts in a 65-53 loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Jan. 24, 2019... The percentage (11.8) was the lowest since the Mustangs went 1-for-11 (9.1 percent) in a 53-50 loss to Tarleton State in the LSC Postseason tournament final on March 9, 2013 at the Allen Event Center... Midwestern State has shot better than 50 percent from the field four times this season and in three of its last five games... MSU has shot 40 percent or better in eight of its last 10 games... The Mustangs had connected on 10-or-more 3-pointers in consecutive games for the first time this season going 14-of-26 against West Texas A&M and 10-of-27 versus Cameron last week for hitting a season-low two at Lubbock Christian... MSU produced its top two assists games of the season last week finishing with 22 assists on 30 made field goals against Cameron and 20 assists on 33 made field goals against West Texas A&M before finishing with six on 21 made field goals Thursday night against LCU... The Mustangs rank third in the LSC in field goal percentage defense (.409) and eighth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.327) during league play... Midwestern State ranks 14th in the LSC in team field goal percentage (42.0 percent) and 17th in team 3-point field goal percentage (30.3 percent)... MSU stands second in the LSC and 23rd in NCAA Division II pulling down 13.1 offensive rebounds per game resulting in 234 second chance points in 21 games (11.1 per game)... Midwestern State projects to play the 19th toughest schedule in NCAA Division II with its past and future opposition combining for a .581 winning percentage...

HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 293-163 mark (.643) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 27-42 record (.391) at MSU.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Eastern New Mexico dropped its sixth consecutive game falling to Dallas Baptist 83-77 Thursday night at Greyhound Arena to fall to 6-12 on the season and 2-7 in Lone Star Conference play... The Greyhounds are 5-3 on the home floor this season including league wins over Oklahoma Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith... Senior guard Jose Serrano leads a trio of 'Hounds scoring double figures with 12.6 points per game, but has missed the last nine games... Freshman guard Kentrell Pullian scores 12.2 points per game and is 14th in the LSC dishing out 3.2 assists per game... Pullian has scored in double figures in 13 of 18 games including a high of 20 points with four 3-pointers against Oklahoma Christian completing a double-double with 10 rebounds (1/6)... Sophomore guard Adam Hess scores 10.4 points per game and is 10th in the LSC averaging 2.2 3-pointers per game... Hess boasts eight games with at least 10 points including a high of 20 with five made triples against New Mexico Highlands (11/14)... Eastern New Mexico opted out of the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 related restrictions...

HEAD COACH BRENT OWEN is 6-12 (.333) in his first season at the helm of the Eastern New Mexico program. Owen served the previous nine season as an assistant coach at his alma mater -- Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles finished with 20-or-more wins in each of his last four seasons on staff including a run to the 2019 NCAA Division II semifinals. He was a three-time Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Academic performer during his playing career at Southern Indiana from 2006-09.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 54th time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Arena. The Mustangs own a 35-18 lead in the series that dates back to the 1948-49 season. MSU dodged a pair of missed free throws with two seconds remaining to claim a 68-67 win in Portales in the last meeting on Feb. 29, 2020. The Mustangs are 16-10 all-time against ENMU at Greyhound Arena including wins in seven of the last eight dating back to the 2012-13 season.
