WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State squares off with UT Tyler in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT

Midwestern State advanced to the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament as the No. 6 seed completing league play with a 10-6 record. The Mustangs take on No. 11-seeded UT Tyler in the opening round with the winning moving on to face third-seeded Dallas Baptist Thursday afternoon at Comerica Center.

MSU IN THE LSC POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT

Midwestern State is 28-13 (.683) in 20 all-time Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament appearances... The Mustangs claimed seven LSC Postseason Tournament championships (1999, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016)... MSU is 0-2 in the opening round of the LSC Postseason tournament since the league expanded beyond eight teams... Midwestern State is looking for its first appearance at Comerica Center in Frisco... The Mustangs advanced to the LSC quarterfinal round in 2018, but a roof leak forced their matchup with UT Permian Basin to Kitty Magee Arena in Denton... Midwestern State is playing its first LSC Postseason Tournament game at D.L. Ligon Coliseum since beating Southeastern Oklahoma 89-80 in the 2007 title game on March 3, 2007... MSU won all nine of its LSC Postseason Tournament games played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum including titles in 1999 and 2007... The Mustangs, however, have not won an LSC Postseason Tournament game since winning the 2016 championship...

Midwestern State closed the regular season winning six of the last seven and eight of the last 10... The Mustangs can clinch back-to-back .500-or-better seasons for the second straight season with a win against UT Tyler in the opening round of the LSC Postseason Tournament... The Mustangs have not posted back-to-back .500-or-better seasons since going 24-6 in 2015-16 and 14-14 in 2016-17... MSU is 2-3 in games decided by two-or-fewer points this season both of the victories have come against UAFS (63-62 on 12/10 and 68-67 on 2/26)... The Mustangs fell 69-68 at UT Tyler (1/2), 75-73 at Angelo State (1/13) and 59-58 at Texas A&M-Kingsville (2/17)... In those four games, the Mustangs led into the final minute against UAFS, UT Tyler and Texas A&M-Kingsville and were within a point with 35 seconds to play against Angelo State... Seven of Midwestern State's last 10 wins have been by double digits... Midwestern State is 9-4 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season and has won the last six games played on its home court... HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 299-164 mark (.646) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 33-43 record (.434) at MSU.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

UT Tyler lost three of their last four regular season games including road games at UT Permian Basin (89-71) and Angelo State (88-64) last week... In its first season as full members of NCAA Division II, UT Tyler makes its first LSC Postseason Tournament appearance Tuesday night at Midwestern State... Senior guard Micah Fuller leads the Patriots scoring 14.2 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from the arc... Fuller scored at least 20 points in five games this season including a season-high 24 last week at UT Permian Basin... Senior guard Da'Zhon Wyche scores 12.4 points per game shooting 39.4 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from the arc... Wyche poured in a season-high 28 points against Western New Mexico (1/22)...

HEAD COACH LOUIS WILSON is 36-38 (.486) in his third season at the helm of the UT Tyler men's basketball program. He guided the Patriots to wins in 10 of their final 11 games in 2020-21 to finish the campaign with a winning 12-10 mark. Wilson enjoyed a stellar five-year run at Adams State from 2010-15 posting a 95-46 mark (.674) leading the Grizzlies to three consecutive NCAA Division II regional appearances. Wilson served as an associate head coach at California State-Northridge from 2006-10 and at Grand Canyon in 2018-19. He has vast experience as a Division I assistant at Southern Utah (1992-98), Idaho State (1998-06) and Utah State (2015-18). Ironically, Wilson and women's head coach Rebecca Alvidrez occupied the same roles at Adams State during the 2013-14 season.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and UT Tyler meet for the seventh time on the hardwood Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The teams split the previous six meeting with the Patriots claiming the last three including a season sweep this year. UT Tyler beat the Mustangs 75-63 on Dec. 13 in Wichita Falls, then hit two 3-pointers to overcome a nine-point deficit in the last 3 1/2 minutes of the game to claim a 69-68 win on Jan. 2 in Tyler. Midwestern State is 2-2 against the Patriots in games played under the dome.
