Reynolds leads Mustangs past UAFS, 72-59

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Hannah Reynolds poured in 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Mustangs to a 72-59 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

MSU snapped a two-game slide to improve to 13-12 on the season and 7-8 in Lone Star Conference play, while UAFS dropped its third straight game to fall to 7-16 and 4-9.

TURNING POINT

Midwestern State outrebounded UAFS by 15 to take control in the second half.

The advantage on the glass allowed the Mustangs to maintain a second-half lead and eventually put the game away by scoring eight consecutive points late in the fourth period.

Sophomore Frances King ignited the run scoring a fade-away jumper on the right block before sophomore Mandy Withey hit a pair of free throws and followed with a layup.  Hannah Reynolds convered a layup on the next possession to push MSU's lead to 67-53 with 2:41 to play.

NOTABLES

- Senior Morgan Lenahan came within two points of scoring her 1,000th collegiate point finishing with 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting with three 3-pointers. She scored 347 points in two seasons at Wagner from 2017-19 and now has 641 at Midwestern State.
- Senior Hannah Reynolds accounted for her fourth double-double of the season going for 21 points and 10 rebounds. It was her third game with 20-or-more points. Reynolds also blocked three shots.
- Senior Frances King accounted for her first point-rebound double-double of the season completing a solid all-around line of 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. It is her second double-double of the campaign as she scored 13 points and dished out a program-record 16 assists earlier this season against St. Mary's.
- Sophomore Mandy Withey recorded season highs with six points and seven rebounds.
- Senior forward Mar'Shalia Lollie scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead UAFS.

Midwestern State takes on Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The Mustangs honor seniors Hannah Reynolds and Morgan Lenahan.
