Comeback effort falls short in 4-3 loss to Rogers State

EDMOND, Okla. -- Midwestern State's Ashley Turner and Bailey Brenek extended streaks Sunday morning in the finale of the Edmond Regional Festival.

But the Mustangs weren't able to overtake Rogers State falling 4-3 to the Hillcats at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.

Turner launched a solo home run over the right-field fence with two outs in the seventh inning to pull the Mustangs to within a run for the second time in the game. Turner's sixth career also extended her hitting streak to eight games dating back to last season.

Rogers State jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring single runs in each of the first three innings highlighted by Jaylen Gibson's RBI double in the first inning and Chelsea Spain's second homer of the season in the second.

Bailey Brenek lined an RBI single to right field to plate Turner and pull the Mustangs to within a run at 3-2. Peyton Lee reached on a swinging bunt to load the bases with one out.

The potential run was cut down at the plate when Maddy Holder reached on a fielder's choice before Sanders flied out as the Mustangs left the bases loaded.

Cameron issued a bases loaded walk to Rogers a 4-2 lead before working her way out of the jam.
