Mustangs seek first conference victory at UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas -- Midwestern State looks to even its conference record against UT Tyler Friday night at Louise Herrington Patriot Center. The Mustangs and Patriots are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Midwestern State overcame a 17-point deficit in the first half to claim its first postseason win in six years beating UT Tyler 66-62 in the first round of the 2022 LSC Postseason Tournament at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Patriots exploded out to a 25-8 lead at the 9:54 mark of the first half after Paul Djoko finished off a 15-2 run with a 3-pointer from the right wing. Midwestern State senior Luke Hamilton buried three of his season-high five 3-pointers to help the Mustangs outscore the Patriots 22-12 over the remainder of the half. The Mustangs took their first lead of the game on Hamilton's fourth triple for a 45-43 advantage with 13:58 to play. Hamilton's fifth 3-pointer tied the game at 62-62 with 1:15 to play and ignited a 7-0 run for the Mustangs to close out the game.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State outscored Dallas Baptist in the second half, 36-27, but the comeback from a 13-point deficit fell short at Burg Center on Wednesday night. Pierre Sanders drove the length of the floor in the final seven seconds, but his layup rimmed out, and the Patriots held on for a 58-56 victory over the Mustangs. Midwestern State was 8 of 26 from the field in the first half — 2 of 15 from 3-point distance. MSU was on fire to start the second half. The Mustangs scored the first seven points of the half and made six of their first eight shots from the field, including 3-pointers from Marquis Davison and Derrick Ogechi. Jordan Teal scored a season-high 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Ogechi poured in 11 points, hitting 3-of-9 shots from beyond the arc. It was the second-straight game that Ogechi hit three 3-pointers. Davison played 19 minutes and was 2 of 4 from the field for six points. Davison finished with three rebounds and two assists for the Mustangs.
