WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State fell 10 places to No. 18 in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 National Poll released on Tuesday. The Mustangs suffered one-goal losses to Oklahoma Christian and Eastern New Mexico before defeating Lubbock Christian, 2-1, in their last match.
Midwestern State picked up its first three points in the Lone Star Conference race as
Sulahmana Bah and
Darryl Walsh scored second-half goals to beat the Chaparrals at Stang Park to snap a three-match winless streak. The Mustangs improved to 7-2-2 overall with a 1-2-0 conference record.
MSU has received votes in 96 consecutive USC national ranking releases dating back to the 2013 season spending 56 of those weeks inside the Top 10.
Oklahoma Christian fell out of the top-25 following a 1-0 loss at Lubbock Christian on Oct. 5, but the Eagles rebounded to defeat UT Tyler in Oklahoma City on Saturday, 3-1. The Eagles are receiving votes.
The Mustangs are back in action on Wednesday night, visiting UT Tyler at Citizens 1st Bank – Perkins Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. The Patriots are 5-3-2 with a 0-2-1 record in the LSC.
St. Mary's is atop the LSC standings with nine points from three matches and ranked No. 10 in the latest poll. The Rattlers are 7-0-4 overall and have outscored their opponents, 24-3. St. Mary's faces West Texas A&M and Oklahoma Christian this week.
Franklin Pierce (14-0-1) replaced Davis & Elkins atop the national rankings. California State – Dominguez Hills (11-0-2), Colorado State – Pueblo (11-2-1), Mercyhurst (12-0-1), and Saginaw Valley State (8-0-4) complete the top five.
Colorado State – Pueblo is the top-ranked team in the South Central Region, followed by St. Mary's, University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (10-1-3) and Midwestern State.
