Midwestern State struggles offensively in 81-46 loss to Cameron

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State struggled to put the ball through the net as Cameron soared through Ligon Coliseum with an 81-46 Lone Star Conference victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs recorded 33 turnovers in which the Aggies were able to capitalize into 27 points. Cameron set a program-record with 26 steals on the night.

"We knew it would be an offensive battle and we just couldn't get our offense going," MSU coach Christopher Reay said. "When we broke the press properly, we got great looks but we couldn't break it consistently."

Morgan Lenahan added a spark to Midwestern State's first half as the guard poured in 12 of the team's 27 points. The senior led the Mustangs with 14 tallies and 3 helpers in her 18th start of the season.

Hannah Reynolds continued her chip at the 200-block milestone with two stops against Cameron in the first 20 minutes. The forward is only six shot-stoppers away from the mark.

The Aggies out-matched MSU's efforts with 7-of-12 shooting from behind the arc. LSC leading scorer Maighan Hedge drained all three long-range attempts in the first half. The guard was 80 percent from the line posting a game-high 28 points.

"We had momentum coming off the WT win and the early foul trouble really hurt us," Reay said.

The Aggies continued to build on their 17-point lead through the second half, gaining as much as a 36-point gap.

Hedge resumed pushing the ball while sophomore Stephanie Peterson secured seven points for CU. The guard/forward combo inked 15, going 50 percent from the floor.

Shawnisay Millar also logged a seven-point half, finishing with nine points and 5-of-7 shooting from the line.

Sophomore Markayla Johnson secured all six points and three steals in the second half. The guard went 3-of-6 from the floor and added a rebound.

The Mustangs concluded the match at 28 percent shooting from the field and 12 percent (2-of-16) from the arc.

Katie King set a record for the Aggies with 11 steals. The guard completed the double-double with 14 points.

Cameron struck with 41 percent shooting from the floor and were 10-of 23 from distance.

Midwestern State sits at .500 in Lone Star Conference play and posts their fourth straight loss to the Aggies.

"We have to refocus and get right back at it," Reay said.

The Mustangs are back at work next week with two Lone Star Conference slates. No. 11 Lubbock Christian hosts on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 5:30. MSU then follows with a trip to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 5. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CST.
