WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State (3-2) starts off their Lone Star Conference schedule with a home battle against St. Edward's (2-2-1). The Saturday, Sept. 25 match will kick off at 3 p.m. at Stang Park.

1 |Â The Mustangs have three players tied for top scorer in 2021 with two goals.
Cassidy Savoy notched a brace against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02) while
Jewel Lewis gained hers against Regis (9/12).
Randi Heaton collected goals in back-to-back games versus Regis and East Central (9/18). In the match facing the Tigers, Heaton claimed her game-winning goal with 18 seconds left to play. Savoy landed six shots in 156 minutes with two going on target. Lewis registered four shots with three on goal in 106 minutes on the field. Heaton played in 306 minutes with three shots and turned two into shots on goal. All three Mustangs are tied for ninth and 14th in the LSC with two goals and four points.
Sarah Gunderson is St. Edward's top point getter for this season, amounting three points on one goal and one assist. Tristyn Cabello, Katelyn Smith and Caitlyn Gonzalez each have a goal to their name as well.

Lexi Beck is MSU's top shooter as she's gained 15 shots in 423 minutes on the field. The freshman punched eight of her attempts on frame for Midwestern State and netted her first collegiate goal against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02) as a 82nd minute penalty kick. Beck tallied a 0.067 shooting percent and 0.533 in her 423 minute performance. The midfielder's season-high shots came against East Central with seven.
Katie Gay leads the Hilltoppers in shooting with ten shots and three landing on goal. The sophomore forward has a 0.300 shot on goal percent in 307 minutes.

Taylor Camp is solid in the net for Midwestern State for the last two seasons. This year, the senior ranks first in the Lone Star Conference with 469 minutes played and fifth with a 0.889 save percent. In all, Camp has 32 saves to lead the LSC and sit 23rd in NCAA Division II. The keeper recorded a career-high ten stops against East Central (9/18) to help the Mustangs to a double overtime victory. Camp's saves per game averages out to 6.40 and is tied for first in the conference with Jenna McEnaney from UT Permian Basin. Camp has two shutouts on the year and has faced 69 shots in five matches.
Abby Carlson has seen action in the goal for SEU in all five matches. The freshman has 20 saves in 44 shots faced and one goal against in 380 minutes. She recorded two wins and one tie and earned three shutouts.
4 | Five matches into the season, Midwestern State has already amounted seven goals on the season, getting closer to their 11 goals from 2020. The team has also held their opponents to four goals to average 0.80 per game. Their opposition have 69 shots and 13.8 per game while MSU has 91 shots and an average of 18.2. The Mustangs have also outshone on corner kicks, overtaking their foes 29 to 18.
5 |Â In terms of conference home openers, MSU is 3-7-1 since 2010. The Mustangs collected victories in 2016 (against Texas Woman's), 2015 (versus Eastern New Mexico) and 2010 (against East Central). Midwestern State have never opened the conference schedule against St. Edward's and Saturday's match will be the first. The team faced Angelo State five out of the eleven outings and West Texas A&M twice.
HEAD COACH RYAN SPENCEÂ begins his fourth season as head coach at his alma mater. In the 2020 season, he led the Mustangs to the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. As a player, Spence helped the Mustangs dominate in his four years on the field. He earned All-American from 2008-11 and helped the team reach the Final Four in 2010. His center back prowess assisted in gaining 35 shutouts in his tenure. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he gained his masters from MSU in 2014-15. From there, Spence moved on as assistant coach at Texas A&M International in 2016 and head coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2017 before coming back to Midwestern State in 2018.

SERIES WITH THE HILLTOPPERS
Midwestern State and St. Edward's have battled to a 7-7-4 record, beginning in 1995. The last time the two teams met at Stang Park was two years ago in 2019. The Hilltoppers took home the 1-0 win over the Mustangs in the first conference battle between the two foes. SEU was previously a part of the Heartland Conference and would play MSU in non-conference matches. Midwestern State sits on a 2-2-3 record at home against St. Edward's.
