JOPLIN, Mo. — Midwestern State continued its improvement under first-year coach
Kelsey Bruce Saturday morning in the 5K Missouri Southern Stampede at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
The Mustangs finished 19th in the 26-team field amassing 523 points against a tough nationally field.
"Most of the ladies ran well. We had seven or eight ladies run better than last weekend, some lifetime bests and got some great experience today, Bruce said. "The Missouri Southern Stampede had some of the best teams in the country and that's always a good measuring stick."
Senior
Victoria Rosas took frontrunner honors for the second consecutive week turning in a PR time of 18:53.86 to place 77th overall, while junior
Christyn Smith also produced a personal best 5K time of 19:00.25 to finish 79th.
Junior
Elizabeth Butzke (19:10.28/95th), senior
Delaney Locke (20:02.61/163rd) and sophomore
Brayleigh McGill (20:16.50/174th) all put team countable performances.
Senior
Alexandra Feller placed 180th with a time of 20:20.01, while freshman
Reese Lee finished the course in 20:29.71 to take 187th.
Other Lone Star Conference squads including Dallas Baptist (3rd/140),j West Texas A&M (4th/176), Arkansas-Fort Smith (23rd/645) and UT Tyler (24th/672).
"I am proud of the team, but we have work to do. We are excited about the future and hungry to be better," Bruce said.
Midwestern State compete in the MSU Mustangs Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 9.
