Mustangs cannot overcome Lubbock Christian's hits in Sunday double header

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Lubbock Christian swept both ends of a Lone Star Conference twin bill against Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park.
 
The Lady Chaps took Game No. 1 8-0 in a five-inning run rule before claiming the second game, 11-4.
 
Lubbock Christian improved to 25-10 while the Mustangs, who have lost seven straight, dropped to 12-22.
 
Midwestern State returns to action Friday afternoon for a doubleheader against No. 12-ranked West Texas A&M at Mustangs Park. First pitches are slated for 4 and 6 p.m.

GAME 1: Lubbock Christian 8, Midwestern State 0 (5 innings)

Lubbock Christian's Alivia Villarreal's two-run homer capped a seven-run third inning and propelled the Lady Chaps to an 8-0 win in five innings in Saturday's opening game.
 
LCU's Angela Donaldson drove in two runs with a triple to the right-field gap in the decisive third inning just after Addi Lewis delivered a bases loaded, two-run single up the middle as the Lady Chaps pushed the lead to 7-0.
 
Skylar Herrera added the run-rule tally with a solo home run in the fourth.
 
LCU starter Taylor Franco limited Midwestern State to four runs in a complete game win to improve to 13-4 in the circle. She recorded seven strikeouts to one walk.
 
Freshman Kaitlyn Turner took the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 4-10 while allowing seven runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. Fellow frosh Addi Hanna allowed one hit -- Herrera's solo shot -- in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
 
Carson Solis, Ashley Turner, Bailey Brenek and Briana Martinez accounted for one hit each to account for MSU's offensive output.

GAME 2: Lubbock Christian 11, Midwestern State 4

Brooke Makemson delivered four hits and Alivia Villarreal had three hits and drove in four runs to spur Lubbock Christian to an 11-4 win over Midwestern State in Game No. 2 on Saturday.
 
The Lady Chaps got off of a quick start with four runs in the first inning then added three more in the third and fourth frames and another in the sixth to complete the sweep.
 
Makemson fell a homer shy of the cycle legging out a double and a triple to go along with a pair of singles, Villarreal drove in a run on a double in the first inning, had a two-run single in the third and added an RBI-single in the fourth.
 
Carson Solis had three hits to pace the Midwestern State attack, while Payton Griffin accounted two hits including a solo home run to highlight a two-run second inning.
 
Sophomore Ashley Turner accounted for MSU's third run by lacing a run-scoring double down the left-field line in the fourth frame.
