WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The men's tennis team grabbed their third win of the season in a thrilling 4-3 win over Southern Arkansas. Midwestern State made a comeback in singles play with
Alberto Diaz clinching the win.
Southern Arkansas got the doubles point with two matches. Ole Valkyser and Gabriel Breitenmoser beat
Brice Bradshaw and
Quentin Scharfenberg 6-3 at number three doubles. The point was official with the win for Sander Jans and Sofiane Bah against
Alex Martinez Roca and
Alexandre Crepy. The 6-2 win at number one doubles sealed the deal.
Angel Palacios and
Ben Westwick and Yuri Gondouin and Marko Nikoliuk's match went unfinished at number two doubles. Southern Arkansas was up 1-0 heading into singles play.
Crepy leveled the score with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Valkyser at number four singles. No. 5 Palacios put another point on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over no. 15 Nikoliuk. The number three singles match put the Mustangs up 2-1.
Southern Arkansas evened the score again when Jans beat Westwick 6-4, 6-4 at number two singles. MSU took the lead again through no. 43 Martinez Roca. He beat Gondouin 6-4, 7-6 at number one singles.
SAU put both teams at 3-3 when Bah beat Scharfenberg 6-2, 6-4 at number six singles.
Diaz brought home the gold with his big win at number five singles. The junior clutched the win with a 6-3, 7-6 score over Breitenmoser.
The team ends the weekend with a match against Metropolitan State-Denver on Sunday, March 7. The first serve will be at 3 p.m. at MSU Tennis Center.
