OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Midwestern State participated in the consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday, Feb. 27. The team faced no. 14 Concordia University Irvine at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m. Though the team garnered a point, it was not enough to outlast the Eagles in the 1-4 heartbreak.
The lone win of the match came from No. 5 Angel Palacio's up cut of Mike Jansen 6-4, 6-3.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Alexandre Crepy overturned Yassine Smiej and Mike Jansen 6-1 at no. 1 doubles. The rest of the Mustangs dropped their matches with
Angel Palacios and
Quentin Scharfenberg lost to Patrick Wong and Jan Simon 4-6. Benjamin Buck and Gertjan De Wilder 4-6 overmatched
Brice Bradshaw and
Alberto Diaz.
On the singles side, No. 43 Martinez Roca won a set over Smiej in their unfinished game at 6-4, 2-4 while Westwick dropped his match against Wong 2-6, 3-6.
As previously stated, Palacios won at no. 3 singles to gain MSU a team point.
Crepy also took a set from his opponent, Simon, but lost in three 3-6, 6-2, 3-6. Buck swept Scharfenberg 6-4, 6-4. At no. 6 singles, Bradshaw faced Sofian Tayebi and was not able to finish the match. Bradshaw won the first set 6-4 but fell 5-3 in the second set.
