Butzke leads Mustangs to 18th-place showing at South Central Regionals

Three Mustangs race to PRs

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Elizabeth Butzke led Midwestern State for the second time this season helping the Mustangs to an 18th-place showing in the 25-team field in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship Saturday at the LCU Cross Country Course.

The sophomore from Mansfield was one of three MSU runners to set personal best mark at the championship 6,000-meter distance clocking a 23:03.20 to finish 77th overall out of 173 racers.

Butzke's time ranks 15th on MSU's all-time 6,000-meter performance list.

Sophomore Christyn Smith, who logged team countable finishes at each of her six meets this season, placed 86th coming within six seconds of her 6K PR time finishing with a 23:16.30.

Victoria Rosas closed out a breakout junior campaign finishing 114th overall with her sixth consecutive team countable performance with a time of 24:01.80.

Freshman Presley Wall (24:22.40) and junior Alexandra Feller (24:24.40) also clocked personal best times entering the chute 119th and 120th, respectively, while senior Delaney Locke (24:40.40) placed 126th.

Adams State (30 points), Colorado School of Mines (97 points) and UC Colorado Springs (116 points) earned the three automatic team berths in the NCAA Division II Championships set for Saturday, Nov. 20 at The Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Fla.

Adams State sophomore Briana Robles completed the 6K course in 20:24.30 to earn top individual honors, while West Texas A&M's Florance Uwajeneza (20:34.40/3rd) and Eleonora Curtabbi (20:56.20/6th) as well as Western Colorado  sophomore Katie Doucette (20:41.80) earned national individual berths as the top three finishers not on advancing teams.

The top three teams from each of the eight regions as well as 10 at-large selections gain entry into the NCAA Division II Championship meet.
