In 2017, the team went 11-8-1 overall and 6-2 in the first eight games for a 0.75 win percentage. His center back prowess assisted in gaining 35 shutouts in his tenure. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he gained his masters from MSU in 2014-15. From there, Spence moved on as assistant coach at Texas A&M International in 2016 and head coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2017 before coming back to Midwestern State in 2018.

SERIES WITH THE EAGLES
Midwestern State commenced the series with Oklahoma Christian in 1995 in which there was a ten year hiatus between 2003 and 2013 where the teams did not meet. Overall, MSU holds the 7-1-1 advantage, losing in March of 2021 when on the road in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Eagles ousted the Mustangs by 2-1 in the only drop for Midwestern State. Three days later, the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Wichita Falls, Texas. When in OKC, MSU is 1-1.
