SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Midwestern State got its first taste of the championship distance Wednesday night in the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic at the ASU Cross Country Course.
And the Mustangs gobbled up eight 6,000-meter personal bests to win essentially a duel against the home standing Rambelles.
Sophomore
Christyn Smith claimed the individual win and repeated as the first Mustang to enter the chute with a PR of 23:10.00. She was closely followed by junior
Victoria Rosas with her 6K best time of 23:17.00.
MSU fell just two points shy of a perfect score with junior
Alexandra Feller (23:47.00/4th), sophomore
Elizabeth Butzke (23:49.00/5th) and sophomore
Brayleigh McGill (24:30.00) also posting team countable finishes as the Mustangs totaled 17 points.
Led by the sixth-place finishing Mary Brown (23:49.20), Angelo State amassed 43 total points.
West Texas A&M's Daphne Pate broke MSU's grasp on the top four position by running third with a time of 23:18.50.
Freshmen Natahlia Escontrias (24:34.00/9th),
Addilyn Keys (25:00.00/11th) and
Presley Wall (25:48.00/15th) logged strong finishes in their first try at the 6,000-meter distance, while senior
Delaney Locke finished 13th with a time of 25:36.00.
Midwestern State competes in the Lone Star Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Big Green Soccer Complex in Lawton, Okla.
