Lone Star Conference postpones football, soccer, volleyball to Spring 2021

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Lone Star Conference Council of Presidents elected to postpone league competition in the sports of football, soccer and volleyball to the spring Friday afternoon.

The three sports may practice during the fall semester under all applicable NCAA Division II rules, but not participation in competition.

The cross country competition season will remain in the fall, while golf and tennis will also be permitted to compete in the fall non-championship segment.

The NCAA Division II Presidents Council cancelled all 2020 fall championships earlier in the week, while the Division II Administrative Committee approved waivers to allow Division II student-athletes to retain use of a season of competition if their team completes 50 percent or less of the sport's maximum contests/dates for the 2020-21 academic year.

Additionally, student-athletes who qualify for the season of competition waiver, or whose institutions cancel the sport season entirely, will receive an extension of their 10 semesters of eligibility, provided the student-athlete was otherwise eligible for competition during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Lone Star Conference Council of Presidents also confirmed basketball may begin practices in their championship segment on Oct. 15, but will not compete until the spring.

No practice activities in any sport will begin prior to Aug. 24, while competition in cross country, golf and tennis may not start any earlier than the week of Sept. 21.

The league continues to monitor updated public health information and evaluate medical safeguards and certifications to ensure safe competition. The health and well-being of student-athletes will remain top priority in all conference decisions.
