LAWTON, Okla. -- Midwestern State opens the 2020-21 season with a two-game set against Cameron Friday and Saturday at Aggie Gym.

No admittance to Aggie Gym will be permitted for fans and other guests according to a statement released by Cameron University President John McArthur.

SEASON OPENERS
Midwestern State is 23-22 in season openers but has dropped three straight campaign starters. The last time MSU opened the season with a win was during the 2016-17 season when the Mustangs upended Adams State (Colo.), 72-55 in the Ashbrook Classic.

REAY TAKES THE REINS
Christopher Reay begins his first season at the helm of his alma mater. He guided the Mustangs to a 4-6 mark over the final 10 games in 2019-20 serving in an interim role following
Noel Johnson's leave of absence to continue her fight against ovarian cancer. Reay served as the top assistant for the previous 10 campaigns playing a hand in guiding MSU to three consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Regionals from 2012-15 as MSU claimed a Lone Star Conference regular and postseason tournament titles in 2012-13. Reay competed two seasons at Midwestern State in 2006-07 and 2007-08 after transferring from SMU helping MSU to an LSC postseason tournament championship and a regional semifinal appearance in 2007.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY
Dianna Jones takes over as the top assistant at Midwestern State. Jones was a key cog in the Mustangs' three runs to the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals and for MSU's Lone Star Conference championship squad in 2012-13. She earned first-team All-LSC honors as a senior after gaining honorable mention as a junior. She was the league's freshman of the year in 2012. Jones, who was a member of Waco Midway High's Class 4A title squad in 2009, served as an assistant coach at Temple College last season. She played professionally in Egypt, Mexico and El Salvador.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State returns 55.5 percent of its scoring from last season (1,016 of 1,831 points) paced by top returner
Hannah Reynolds. The senior from Prosper averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game. Also returning from last season's balanced scoring attack are senior guard
Kityana Diaz (6.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg), junior forward
Shawnisay Millar (6.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg) and sophomore guard
Frances King (5.8 ppg).

Senior transfer
Morgan Lenahan competed the last three seasons at Wagner. She averaged 9.5 points and 2.5 assists with 54 made 3-pointers as a redshirt-freshman in 2017-18 before fighting her way back from injury to score 3.0 points and grab 3.6 rebounds a game last season. She is joined by a quartet of freshmen in guards
Maya Kendall (Plano West SH) and
Kenshawnna Reed (Dallas Pinkston HS) and forwards
Brittney Fields (Collinsville HS) and
Mackenzie Taylor (Spearwood, Australia).

ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron was picked to finish seventh in the 2020-21 Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll after posting a 12-10 mark last season finishing in a tie in the division with Midwestern State at 6-4. First-team All-LSC performer Maighan Hedge returns to lead the Aggies. The junior from Melbourne, Australia poured in 19.6 points per game last season shooting 43 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from the arc (70 triples). She connected on 86.7 percent the charity stripe reaching the line 5.4 times per game. Emma Andrews boasts a 45-68 record (.398) entering her fifth season at the helm in Lawton.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Cameron meet for the 78th and 79th time on the hardwood this weekend at Aggie Gym in Lawton. The Mustangs own a 48-29 lead in the series which dates back to the 1975-76 season and have won the last three meetings including a season sweep in 2019-20. Overall, the teams have split the 38 meetings between the programs played in Lawton.
