WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Looking to snap a three-game slide, the Midwestern State Mustangs host Texas A&M International on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

DIVISION II SHOWCASE
The Midwestern State and Texas A&M International doubleheader streams as part of the NCAA Division II Showcase on ESPN3. ESPN3 is accessible on computers via ESPN.com and on smartphones, tablets and streaming devices through the ESPN App. The network is available nationwide at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider. LAST TIME OUT
Midwestern State jumped out an early 9-2 lead, but could not sustain the momentum, as Texas A&m-Kingsville closed the half on an 18-11 run to tie the game at 20-20. MSU Texas took their final lead of the game at 24-22 when Kityana Diaz scored with 8:18 remaining in the third quarter. The Javelinas responded with a 6-0 spurt and led by two heading into the fourth. The Mustangs tied the game at 37-37 less than a minute into the fourth, but TAMUK used a 5-0 run to seize control. The Javelinas went 4-of-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory. Mandy Withey scored a career-high nine points and secured three rebounds while Elizabeth Cathcart scored 10 points. The Mustangs shot just 19-of-62 from the floor.
 
PLAYOFF RACE HEATING UP
Midwestern State remained locked in the 12th and final playoff spot after Thursday's loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Mustangs hold a 0.5 game edge over UT Permian Basin for the final playoff spot. UT Tyler is ineligible for postseason play as they transition from Division III to Division II.

SERIES HISTORY

The Maroon and Gold lead the all-time series 2-1 with all three meetings coming in Wichita Falls. In the most recent meeting in 2016, 14 different players scored at least two points, and Elizabeth Cathcart scored a team-high 9 points, as the Mustangs crushed the Dustdevils, 76-53. 

WONDERFUL WITHEY
Mandy Withey scored a career-high nine points in a career-high 13 minutes of action in Thursday night's loss to the Javelinas. The freshman went 4-of-5 from the floor and also grabbed three rebounds. 

SAVVY SENIOR
With a 10-point effort on Thursday night, Elizabeth Cathcart has now scored in double figures in 14 of 17 games this season. Cathcart leads the Mustangs in scoring, at 13.8 PPG, a figure that places her seventh in the Lone Star Conference. The senior also ranks fourth in the LSC with a .476 field goal percentage. 
 
FREE THROW STRUGGLES
Midwestern State finished 8-of-18 from the line on Thursday, making it the second straight game the Maroon and Gold missed at least 10 free throws. The Mustangs missed a season worst 15 free throws on January 25 (22-of-37). 

CUTTING DOWN THE THREES
A game after attempting 29 three-pointers against Oklahoma Christian, their most three point attempts since also attempting 29 against OC on 11/11/17, MSU Texas finished 0-of-2 from deep in Saturday's loss to Arkansas-Fort Smith. It was the first time the Mustangs failed to make a three-pointer in a game since going 0-of-4 from deep against McMurry (Texas) on 11/26/13, a span of more than six years.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH JOHNSON
Noel Johnson is in her 12th season as the Head Coach of the Midwestern State Women's Basketball team. Last season, Johnson led MSU to a 12-16 (9-11) mark and a sixth place finish in the Lone Star Conference South Division. Overall, the Mustangs have compiled a 158-164 (.491) record under Johnson's guidance. She became the winningest coach in program history on December 19, 2017 when MSU beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 72-66 to land her 133rd career victory.
 
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International dropped their ninth straight game on Thursday night, a 95-85 loss at Cameron. The Dustdevils are led by first year Head Coach Nate Vogel, who compiled a 55-9 mark at Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana. Vogel guided the Pioneers to the NJCAA National Tournament last season, the school's first trip to the dance since 1990. Patrycja Jaworska, who played under Vogel at MCC, scored a season-high 28 points on Thursday night on 9-of-15 shooting. The Wroclaw, Poland native paces the Dustdevils, scoring 13.5 PPG (ninth leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference). Nicole Heyn is the only other TAMIU player averaging in double figures, as the junior scores 12.2 PPG. As a team, the Dustdevils average 66.7 PPG, good for ninth most in the Lone Star Conference.

A trip to Stephenville, Texas on Thursday, February 6 for a Lone Star matchup against Tarleton State. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
