Pineda, Lazzarotto named LSC Scholar Athletes

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Dillon Pineda and Greta Lazzarotto earned Lone Star Conference Scholar Athlete honors as released by league officials Monday afternoon.
 
Pineda, who holds a 3.37 grade-point average as a biology major, claimed the Marie Morgan Award which is presented annually to the top overall male and female student-athlete at MSU Texas for the second consecutive year.
 
The Allen, Texas native is one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history.
 
Pineda twice earned South Central Region's Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship honors and was a three-time recipient of the LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year award.
 
Pineda was named to the LSC All-Academic Team this spring and was an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2018. He is a four-time member of the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
Pineda also gave back to the Wichita Falls community winning the Howard Farrell Community Excellence Award at the 2019 MSU Texas Honors Recognition Banquet.
 
He also stood tall on the court as a three-time, first-team All-LSC performer in doubles, while gaining first-team all-league singles mention in each of the last two seasons.
 
Pineda helped the Mustangs to four NCAA Division II postseason showing including quarterfinalist runs in 2016, 2018 and 2019 finishing his career with 115 combined victories.
 
Lazzarotto is the standard bearer for excellence for the Midwestern State women's tennis program.
 
The Bassano del Grappa, Italy native closed her career as the program's all-time leader with 147 combined victories twice earning All-Lone Star Conference mention in both singles and doubles while leading the Mustangs to four NCAA postseason appearances, two league crowns and three LSC postseason tournament titles during her collegiate career.
 
The 2019 Marie Morgan Award winner also raised the bar off of the court as the first in school history to earn NCAA Elite 90 honors boasting a top GPA of 4.00 as a management major at this spring NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship.
 
Lazzarotto is a three-time LSC Academic Player of the Year, while earning ITA Scholar Athlete accolades in 2017 and 2018. She earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors in 2017 and 2019 and is currently up for Academic All America.
 
Pineda and Lazzarotto are slated to graduate in December.
 
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives for the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on campus each year.
 
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated in at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.
