31st Annual Maroon & Gold Spring Game set for Saturday at Memorial Stadium

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The 31st Annual Maroon and Gold Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 13 at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
Admission is free and hot dogs will be available to the first 700 in attendance at no cost. Entrance is limited to the East (guest) side of the stadium due to construction.
 
The second annual Robert Grays Endowment recipient will also be announced at halftime, while one fan will have the opportunity to kick for a $5,000 cash prize.
 
The MSU Bookstore will be on location with your MSU gear. Meet student-athletes, coaches and Maverick T. Mustang the mascot. The Mustangs Shuttle will run from the campus to the stadium and back from 4:30 p.m. until the end of the game.
 
Maroon leads the recent series by a 7-6 margin in results dating back to 2006.
 
Last season, Hagen Hutchinson passed for 163 yards and three touchdowns to lead gold to a 22-13 win over Maroon.
 
Hutchinson connected for first-half scores to Tyler Milliken (11), Ta'Vion Barnes (17) and Kylan Harrison (2) to post gold to a 22-7 halftime edge.
 
Maroon's Zach Purcell hit Xavier Land for a 61-yard TD strike in the third quarter to account for the only points of the second half.
 
Land amassed 122 yards on four receptions to lead all receivers, while Nicholas Gabriel ran for 81 yards on 20 carries.
 
Maroon's Colby Vidrine was the defensive standout finishing with seven tackles and two sacks.
 
Midwestern State posted its 18th consecutive winning season last fall just missing its eighth NCAA Division II playoff appearance with an 8-2 record. The two losses came by a single point each to postseason qualifiers.

MAROON VS. GOLD SPRING GAME RECENT HISTORY

2018: Senior-to-be Hagen Hutchinson passed for 163 yards and three touchdowns to lead Gold to a 22-13 win over Maroon. Hutchinson connected for first-half scores to Tyler Milliken (11), Ta'Vion Barnes (17) and Kylan Harrison (2) to post Gold to a 22-7 halftime edge. Maroon's Zach Purcell hit Xavier Land for a 61-yard TD strike in the third quarter to account for the only points of the second half. 2017: Sophomore Marcus Wilkerson picked off two passes and broke up another while also making a game-high eight tackles to lead Gold to a 9-7 win in a game that featured 345 yards of combined offense. Senior-to-be Javin Kilgo scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 1-yard keeper at the 10:40 mark of the first quarter as the teams exchanged safeties over the remaining 55 minutes. Chris Smith rushed for 92 yards on 10 carries to lead the Gold attack, while Layton Rabb completed 9-of-19 passes for 118 yards and two interceptions to pace the Maroon squad. The Gold defense notched nine tackles for loss including four sacks. Robert Grays was credited three pass breakups.
 
2016: Sophomore Layton Rabb passed for 287 yards and three touchdowns to lead Maroon to a 38-31 win in a game that featured 945 yards of combined offense with 694 of coming through the air. Each of Rabb's TD passes came after halftime as the Llano product hit Tyrique Edwards (34), Breion Evans (48) and Gary Farquhar for scores to foil two valiant comeback efforts by the Gold squad. Quade Coward connected on 17-of-33 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns for the Gold team.
 
2015: Redshirt-freshman Reggie Gipson scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 4-yard scamper in the first quarter to lead Maroon to a 7-3 victory. Freshman Layton Rabb, who served as the backup signal caller on both teams, combined to complete 8-of-13 passes for 105 yards, while junior Quade Coward connected on 7-of-10 passes for 107 yards including a 60-yard strike to Josh Murray. The game was called at the 9:41 mark of the third quarter due to a lightning strike within 6 miles of the stadium.
 
2014: Gold rallied from a 21-10 deficit with two minutes remaining in the third quarter as siblings Drew Ashley and Arsenio Phillips scored in the final stanza in a 24-21 victory.
 
2013: Shavodrick Beaver passed for 242 yards and two touchdowns to lead Gold to a 37-26 win. Tight end Mark Strange caught three passes for 148 yards for the Gold squad.
 
2012: Thomas Carper caught four passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns including the game winner from 19 yards out in the fourth quarter to pace Gold to a 13-6 victory over Maroon. Keidrick Jackson rushed for 85 yards on 17 carries to lead the Maroon attack.
 
2011: Chauncey Harris rushed for 103 yards to lead Maroon to a 24-7 win over Gold.
 
2010: Zack Eskridge passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns as Maroon overcame a four-touchdown first half deficit to win 31-28. Gold's Brandon Kelsey passed for two scores and P.J. Grundy returned an interception 99 yards for a score as Gold led 28-0 with 1:49 to play in the first half.
 
2009: Zack Eskridge threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns to key Gold to a 33-21 win over Maroon. Eskridge completed his first 11 passes including scoring strikes to Sasan Faradineh (21), Ethan Rosales (58), Sheldon Galloway (33) and Andy Tanner (28).
 
2008: Neal Carr's 2-yard scoring plunge in the first quarter proved to be the difference as Maroon came away with a 6-0 win over Gold. Maroon sophomore P.J. Grundy stripped a running back returning the ball deep into Gold territory to set up the lone score of the game.
