Scouting the Javelinas: Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the weekend ranked No. 3 in the NFCA poll with a 33-8 record and an 18-6 mark in LSC play…the Javelinas are coming off their first series loss in league play, dropping two of three at Angelo State last week…TAMUK hits .323 as a team with a .470 slugging percentage, plating 237 runs in 41 games…the Javelinas boast a 2.21 ERA in the circle with opponents hitting at a .216 clip…pitching for the Javelinas averages nearly a strikeout an inning with 271 punchouts in 272.0 innings pitched…sophomore infielder Anastasia Leibas leads the team offensively with a .388 average to go along with nine homers and 40 RBI…freshman Saidi Castillo leads the team in the circle, posting a 19-5 record to go along with a 2.26 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 133.1 innings…Breanna Smith (11-2, 1.91 ERA, 110.0 IP) has also seen significant action on the rubber…
 
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State hits the road for the final time, traveling to third-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville for a Thursday/Friday Lone Star Conference matchup. First pitch in the series opening doubleheader is tabbed for 3 p.m. on Thursday while the Good Friday contest starts at noon.
 
Storylines
Mark Ryal Era Continues
Mark Ryal continues his third season as the head coach of the Maroon and Gold. The former Major Leaguer has led the Mustangs to a 53-66 (.445) record and a pair of ninth place finishes in the LSC. Ryal picked up his 50th in the Maroon and Gold in the win on March 21 over Texas Woman's.
 
Last Time Out
MSU swept UT Permian Basin in its penultimate homestand last weekend. Freshman Bailey Wamsley and senior Carli Woolsey topped the Mustangs at the plate.
 
Road Trouble
The Mustangs try to snap a 12-game road losing streak. After opening the year with a win at Lubbock Christian, the Maroon and Gold have been blanked on the road in league action.
 
K-Counter
MSU pitching has combined for a 4.03 ERA overall this season while allowing opposing hitters to hit a meager .234, the fourth lowest in team single-season history. Seniors Misty Muniz (.211) and Abbie Lancaster (.244) rank third and sixth, respectively in opponent average.
 
Additionally, the Maroon and Gold average 6.72 strikeouts per 7.0 innings pitched, the fourth best in program history. Muniz (8.19, second) and Lancaster (4.39, eighth) each rank in the top 10 for career totals.
 
Muniz became the first MSU pitcher to record 100 strikeouts in a season since Laci Belovsky fanned 148 in 2013.
 
Hotter Than The Sun
Senior Carli Woolsey leads the team and ranks fifth in the LSC with 12 dingers on the season. The Enid, Okla., has gone deep in seven of the last 12 games.
 
Woolsey's 21 extra-base hits this year propelled her into the top 15 with a .514 career slugging percentage. Her 20 career bombs rank as the 13th most in program history.
