Storylines
First Serve
Midwestern State begins its final homestand of the 2019 regular season on Friday as Dallas Baptist journeys to the MSU Tennis Center. First serve against the Patriots is slated for 2 p.m.
Â
Last Time Out
MSU opened Lone Star Conference play with a pair of road wins against UT Permian Basin (6-1) and Western New Mexico (5-2) last week. The Maroon and Gold went 10-2 in singles to improve to 68-28 overall on the season.
Â
Doubles Decider
The doubles point has proved to be decisive for the Mustangs this season. MSU Texas is 11-1 when grabbing the early edge and 2-2 when falling into a hole.
Â
Since winning the point in 10 of the first 12 matches, the Maroon and Gold have split the point in each of the last four outings.
Â
Title Defense
MSU's April 25 showdown against Cameron serves as the de-facto regular season championship match for the Lone Star Conference. Both teams boast an unbeaten record in LSC play with only their rival on the schedule remaining in conference action.
Â
The Mustangs look to repeat as conference champs for the first time in team history. MSU swept through UTPB (8-1), WNMU (7-2) and Cameron (6-3) last season en-route to the team's first league crown since 2006.
Mustangs Slip to No. 21
Midwestern State moved down five spots to No. 21 in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings after a 2-0 start to Lone Star Conference play last week. The 13-3 Mustangs return to the MSU Tennis Center for matches on Friday, April 12, and Tuesday, April 16, against Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma Baptist.
Â
Junior
Angel Palacios remained at No. 2 in the singles rankings while the doubles tandem of sophomore
Alberto Diaz and freshman
Ben Westwick dropped out of the top 10 to No. 15.
Â
Pineda Reaches No. 100
Senior
Dillon Pineda became the 12th member of the 100 win club on April 5 against UT Permian Basin. The Allen native swept Marcos Silva, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 2 line in singles to reach the milestone.

Pineda owns a 42-33 singles record and 59-32 doubles record in his four-year career at MSU.
Â

Angel Palacios is five wins away from No. 100 in his three-year career with MSU. The Piedras Negras, Mexico, native ranks 13
