THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Seniors
Misty Muniz and
Abbie Lancaster each recorded their third shutout of the season as Midwestern State swept a pair of pitcher's duels from Texas Woman's on Thursday at Mustangs Park.
Coach
Mark Ryal picked up his 50th career win in the Maroon and Gold in Game No. 2.
Muniz fired a two-hitter as the Mustangs scratched across a run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 1-0 win in the series opener.
Lancaster scattered six hits and two walks in the nightcap while senior
Carli Woolsey hit a pair of solo jacks in a 2-0 Mustangs win.
GAME ONE
Muniz improved to 7-6 on the year with her ninth complete game and third shutout in the 1-0 series opening win. The Seabrook, Texas, native retired 15-straight hitters from the end of the second inning and didn't allow a runner past second base.
TWU's Bailey Turner took a hard-luck loss to drop to 4-10 on the season. The Pioneers pitcher allowed one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
The Mustangs broke through for the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth. Senior
Tucker Caraway reached on a hit-by-pitch with one out and moved into scoring position on a groundout from sophomore
Caycee Griffin.
Junior
Lauren Lindgren lifted a lazy line-drive to shallow center field. Caraway narrowly beat Lindy Kennedy's throw to the plate to give MSU Texas the lead.
Muniz didn't rack up the strikeouts as usual, fanning just six in the contest, but was extremely efficient. The right-hander needed just 85 pitches in the complete game effort and allowed only three baserunners.
Lindgren provided the lone multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 and driving in her team-leading 21

GAME TWO
Not wanting to be outdone by her counterpart,
Abbie Lancaster ran the Mustangs scoreless inning streak to 28 with a tough-as-nails performance in the circle.
Needing four strikeouts to break the century-mark in her career, the Idabel, Okla., native came up with three of the biggest Ks of her career in the top of the fifth to keep the game scoreless.
TWU's Tara Solomon and Makayla Cook hit back-to-back singles before moving into scoring position. With runners on second and third and no outs, Lancaster fanned Kennedy and Alexis Elizondo for the first and second outs of the frame. Following an intentional walk to load the bags, the right-hander caught Avery Williams looking on a 0-2 pitch to escape trouble.
Carli Woolsey provided all the offensive fireworks in the nightcap with her first career multi-home run game. The Enid, Okla., native took TWU's Jordan Kisselburg deep in the bottom of the fifth, belting an opposite-field homer off the scoreboard – on the 10
th pitch of the at-bat, no less - to break the scoring seal.
Woolsey added an insurance run for the Maroon and Gold in the bottom of the sixth. Quickly falling behind 0-2 to Tatum Stover, Woolsey fouled off four payoff pitches before launching her team-leading ninth dinger of the season.
Lancaster finished the contest with a pair of groundouts in the top of the seventh to complete her seventh complete game and third shutout of the year.
