Woolsey blasts 10th home run in series finale loss to Texas Woman’s

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Carli Woolsey homered for the third time in the last two games, belting her 10th long ball of the season, but Texas Woman's clubbed three homers of its own as Midwestern State lost 6-2 in the series finale.

The Mustangs slide to 16-13 overall and 7-11 in Lone Star Conference play. MSU Texas saw its nine game home winning streak and four game shutout streak snapped by the Pioneers.

Woolsey went 2-for-3 with her team-leading 10th round-tripper of the season on a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh. The Enid, Okla., native matched Lauren Lindgren with her 20th and 21st RBI.

TWU's Paige Tamayo led the Pioneers offensively. The TWU second baseman went 3-for-3 with two homers, a double and four RBI.

Senior Misty Muniz was tagged with the loss to fall to 7-7 on the year. The Seabrook, Texas, native allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Senior Abbie Lancaster tossed the final 2.0 innings in relief, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits with a strikeout.

TWU starting pitcher Bailey Turner earned the win. The right-hander kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard for the first six innings and allowed just seven hits in the contest.

Defensive miscues and base running blunders cost the Maroon and Gold all afternoon. A leadoff single from senior Tucker Caraway in the bottom of the first was erased trying to go first to third on a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore Caycee Griffin was thrown out at second trying to advance on a ball in the dirt in the third inning and a double play ball from Muniz ended the threat in the sixth.

TWU plated the first runs on the Mustangs in the last 30 innings in the top of the third. Alexis Elizondo reached on an error to open the inning. After a fielder's choice erased the runner at second, Tamayo roped a two-run homer to left-center to stake the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

Taylor Goulet hit a solo homer to lead off the sixth to stretch the lead to 3-0 and chase Muniz from the contest. Alexas Neifert got into scoring position as third baseman Ashley Turner made a wide throw to first with one out. Following a strikeout, Tara Solomon lined a single into center to score Neifert from second.

Tamayo hit her second long ball of the day in the top of the seventh to push the TWU lead to 6-0.

Lindgren started the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff single. Woolsey launched Turner's 1-1 pitch to straightaway center to put the Mustangs on the board.
