THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Seniors
Misty Muniz and
Abbie Lancaster each tossed a shutout as Midwestern State swept its midweek doubleheader with Northwestern Oklahoma State – 8-0 and 4-0 – on Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
GAME ONE
Muniz hurled her fourth one-hitter of the season while matching a season-high with 12 strikeouts in the opening 8-0 win over the Rangers. The Seabrook, Texas, native surrendered a two out double in the top of the third to Kalie Johnson for the lone blemish on her pitching line.
Junior outfielder
Lauren Lindgren went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with two doubles and two RBI to pace the Mustangs at the plate. Senior infielder
Carli Woolsey added a 3-for-4 performance, slugging a pair of doubles. Sophomore
Marley Eller went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
The Maroon and Gold scored in five of the six innings to keep the pressure on the Rangers throughout, including hanging a crooked number in the third, fifth and sixth frames.
Sophomore
Caycee Griffin came around to score the day's first run in the bottom of the first on Lindgren's first double. The Denton native lined Karly Murray's 1-2 offering into left-center to bring home Griffin and stake MSU Texas to a 1-0 advantage.
The Mustangs executed a perfect double-steal in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 3-0. With freshman
Ashley Turner and Woolsey on the corners, Woolsey broke for second to draw the throw, allowing Turner to swipe home.
Senior
Tucker Caraway legged out her fifth career triple in the bottom of the fourth before coming home on Lindgren's third hit of the night – a one-out single through the left-side of the infield – and extending the lead to 4-0.
Eller delivered the walk-off single on a full-count, bases-loaded knock in the bottom of the sixth to close out the contest.
Murray (1-10) was tagged with the loss for NWOSU, allowing six runs on 11 hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Lancaster recorded the first seven inning shutout of her career while striking out a career-best 10 and holding NWOSU to three hits to improve to 7-4 on the season. Junior
Kelsey Eropkin (2-for-3) and Woolsey (1-for-2) each launched a home run and drove home a pair.
Eropkin led off the bottom of the second with a rocket to left-center to break the scoring seal. Turner followed with a bunt single and moved around to third on a throwing error. Woolsey lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score the Cache, Okla., native and stretch the Mustangs lead to 2-0.
A RBI single from Eropkin in the bottom of the third pushed the advantage to 3-0, and with the way Lancaster pitched, it was more than enough of a cushion.
The Idabel, Okla., native retired eight-straight and allowed just two baserunners in the final four innings of work.
Woolsey launched her team-leading seventh round-tripper of the season in the bottom of the sixth off NWOSU's Kathryn Wells.
